OUR TEAM MOTTO IS: "I THINK I CAN. I WILL TRY MY BEST!
This is our very important, optimistic motto that we recite together. Helping each other to do our best to learn is what our team is all about! We discovered this positive message from a special story that we enjoyed together called, "The Little Engine That Could"!

EXTRA! EXTRA!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!.....
READING READINESS
In our story, "Maxi, the Hero", we are identifying the concepts of cause and effect. We have become quite good with our reading readiness skills! In fact, many of us are now reading unfamiliar text independently just by putting the sounds together! How exciting each day is in our classroom, as we realize together all we are capable of! Setting, plot, and theme are also developed in our stories. While our letter studies and all of the activities we engage in to learn each letter are valuable, almost all of our friends now know all of their capital and lowercase letters, as well as the sounds associated with them! WOW!!! They've even progressed to magic-spelling words (writing words by "sounding them out")! Complete sentences include a noun, verb, and a period at the end. This is a skill that was also introduced in Unit 3 of our reading series. Telling sentences have periods at the end, and asking sentences have question marks! Check us out!!!
Our two author studies that we are involved in right now are Hans deBeer and Frank Asch. Our Author Study bags are home being enjoyed by two friends right now! Be on the lookout for them to arrive in your home soon. We have been emphasizing that our responsible friends will be able to share them with their families, because they are being trusted to take good care of them, just like our very special Bertram Bear!
We've been enjoying many books about bears this month! Mrs. Arnold has accumulated quite a collection of books on the topic through the years! Ask your child to determine whether the stories you read are fiction or non-fiction. You'll be pleasantly surprised when they are able to explain it to you!

MAINLY MATH!
We are moving on from recognizing and writing our numerals from zero to ten. We've also graduated from recognizing the numbers of objects in groups and matching them with the corresponding numerals. Comparing sets to determine more, same, and less is a skill we are now quite familiar with as well! Were you all impressed with our abilities to recite ordinal numbers 1st through 10th? Finding which items in order are before and after are also skills accomplished by now.
Measuring length, weight, and height using standard and non-standard units (paper clips, pennies, crayons, etc.) has been the focus of our math lessons. Working with shapes that are solids, like balls, boxes, and cones are keeping us busy, too.
