  Math

This week in math we will be building on our understanding of number sentences.

We will determine if number sentences are true or false by looking at all 3 parts: the right side, the symbol (equal, greater, or less than), and the left side of the sentence.

Students will also use parentheses to create true, false, or can’t tell number sentences.

In addition, students will explore open sentences. They will solve the equation for the variable.

A review sheet will be sent home in preparation for our Chapter 3 Test on Friday, November 21st.

Reading

This week in reading we will be continuing our theme by reading Sarah, Plain and Tall .

In this story we will read about a young girl and boy living with their father after the loss of their mother.

The vocabulary words for this story are: alarmed, greetings, perfect, pesky, and prefer.

This story will kick off our covered wagons this week!

We will be creating our wagons as we trail out west to the Great Plains on the Oregon Trail!!

We welcome items that students would like to bring along on their wagon. Please label them with your child’s name.

We will also create necessary items in class throughout the week.

Writing

This week in writing the students will be focusing on helping verbs to show an action that has already happened.

Our spelling words this week focus on homophones; words that sound that same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.

Science

This week in science we will be working on our Severe Weather Project.

T he students will be presenting their projects in class on Thursday.

Along with our projects the students will also be completing a vocabulary quiz and test on Unit E Chapter 3.
