3A's Happenings!

Welcome back to school everyone! We have gotten off to a terrific start and it has been so much fun getting to know your children.

In Math we have made a great Number Museum! The objects are in the back of the classroom. The museum helps to remind us how numbers are used everywhere! We are also working hard on telling time, collecting data to make bar graphs, and Name Collection Boxes! We also practice our addition and subtraction facts EVERY DAY! Please remember to practice at home as well. It really makes a difference!

We are kicking off our first Reading Theme entitled Oink, Oink, Oink. The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig is our first story. Please see the Vocabulary words and Spelling words in your child's Reading Lang. Arts notebook.

EXTRA CREDIT for READING: Design a safe house for either the three pigs or three wolves. You may be as creative as you like with the materials. It can be handed in at any time during this theme. Try to have it in by mid to late October. We will display your child's work in the classroom.

Social Studies has taken us on map adventures and we have been all around the world learning about the seven continents and four oceans. We have also enjoyed learning the location of our states by making very colorful maps with the abbreviation of each state!

By using the skill of comparing and contrasting we are really seeing how plants can be similar and different in Science. Your child will be making Venn Diagrams to show what they have learned. We have also practiced using Context Clues to discover the meaning of new Vocabulary words. The class will also set up a lima bean garden made in ziplock bags. We are looking to see how fast they germinate!
