Non-class Students

As we are a developing chorus, it is important that we have a strong finish to the year. I am making every effort to accommodate your busy schedules and think we can work this out so you can be involved with the chorus and still have your other activities intact.

Remember, time management, commitment and loyalty are key qualities to success, in school and in life.

I would request that you speak with your coaches, teachers etc, and inform them of your involvement in the choral program and that you will have to prioritize your schedule to keep your commitments. I suggest you use my form for rehearsals (ask me) to give to your coaches if you need to be a bit late or just in time to some of their practices, and let them know you may miss some games or practices when it gets close to concert time.

Let's build a great choral program. Together, with your sense of commitment and loyalty, we can do it!!

Chorus Fund Raising Schedule

2007/2008

Car Wash Saturday, May 31– (HS, MS) (Sign up for your time slot in class)

The Class

You can still join the class during period 6B. Speak with me first and we’ll speak with your guidance counselor. I am accepting singers only at this point, the keyboard section is closed.

The Independent Study Program

Our independent study program is open for anyone who can’t fit chorus in their schedule.

It works like this: You will be on the record as being in a class and you work out your schedule with me. You can come after school, before school or during lunch either 6A or 6B. We rehearse Tuesdays before and after school at this time. Yopu must attend at least 2.5 rehearsals a week on average. If you come during lunch, you can eat first and come for the last 15 minutes or so. I will need you to set the days of the week but you can adapt as needed as long as you let me know before hand.

You can select the number of songs you want to sing. The only prerequisite is that you have to sing at least three songs to go on the trip in the spring and fall. There is a two song minimum.

The Music

We select music by vote for the most part and you can make suggestions as well. I will select some music but still have your input as to the final music we will perform. Bring your i-Pods!

We are singing Bohemian Rhapsody, Les Mis (Probably) as well as some Temptations (My Girl, Ball of confusion) so far. We are open for suggestions.

Come and join us for some great music and lots of fun!

Stop by my room anytime to discuss your situation.

The Glen Ridge Middle School Chorus

Congratulations on a great concert!

I heard great reviews from parents and administration!

Important Dates:

Our spring season is about to begin so I would like to inform you of some important dates.

The dates to clear on your calendar are:

Saturday, May 31, Car Wash (Sign up for your time slot at rehearsal)

Chorus Fund Raising Schedule

2007/2008

Car Wash Saturday, May 31– (HS, MS)

Scheduling Rehearsals

Our rehearsal schedule is very flexible and adaptable to your schedule.

We will rehearse on Mondays and Wednesday in the afternoon starting at 3:00 until 3:30. If you need to go for extra help, you can come at 3:15 and if you are on a sport you can leave at 3:25 to make practice. The morning rehearsal will be on Thursday at 7:30 am.

It works out well for everyone and worked well last year.   If I need to change the days I can, depending on the schedule of the students in the chorus.

You will have to make a certain number of rehearsals to qualify for the trips. I ask you to try to make at least two a week and if you need to miss, let me know. You will need to come to 16 rehearsals until December. During December you need to make two every week and perhaps more the last week as we are preparing for the concert. (Special needs can be handled on an individual basis. Please inform me ahead of time as to any special scheduling needs).

The same goes for the spring with a minimum of 22 (there are more as there is more time to practice. It still averages two a week).

Commitment

A strong commitment will produce a strong chorus so make that commitment and show loyalty to the program. I will permit you to sing songs you prefer but will have to commit to singing songs I determine will be sung by the whole chorus. You will have a say in selecting those songs, as we vote on them. You must sing at least three songs with the whole chorus to qualify for the trips.

The Music

We select music by vote for the most part and you can make suggestions as well. I will select some music but still have your input as to the final music we will perform. Last year we sang “Life is a Highway,” from Cars which was selected by a student and voted on as well as “Here Comes the Sun,” by the Beatles. I am open to your suggestions. Bring your i-Pods!!

The Trips

We go on two trips, one to Ridgewood Ave. on December 17th  and one to Dorney park on May 30th. We sing at each of them. Be prepeard for fun.

Come and join us for some great music and lots of fun!

Stop by my room anytime to discuss your situation.

Remember:

Start to work on the Karaoke
by talking it up to your friends. Ask them what songs they would like
to sing, and what desserts they like. Tell them about the prizes and
that we can put it on the announcements. (Only if they want it though.

Before/After school Schedule

After school rehearsals are Tuesday before school (7:20) and Thursday after school (3:00). This may change as we approach a concert as well.   We would add more rehearsal opportunities.
Please remember that the music is on my school web-site along with the words so you can practice on your own.

Behavioral Expectations

Independent study students are expected to behave as they would in any other class.
That is, you are expected to behave according to school rules. When you come in to class, please find your seat or join us in rehearsing. If we are not rehearsing your part at that time, just have a seat and stay relatively quite. Inappropriate behavior is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.
