Summer 2009
After another successful school year, filled with impressive learning and lots of laughter- the summer is here for all of us to rest, relax and recharge. I look forward to seeing the students in September and hearing all about their travels and adventures over the summer months. For those wondering how my summer is going, you can log on every so often and I'll keep you updated. Between Mr. Phillips and I having skateboard races through the hallways and our ongoing battles on the Wii [and getting ready for the next school year, of course!]...
I will do my best to find time to keep you updated
We're not even into July and our summer has already been quite busy. The day after school got out, we went to the Turtleback Zoo for my daughter's (Jamie) birthday...she turned 12 and will be going into 7th grade in September. We had a great time walking around and checking out the animals. They have a great new bird exhibit which the kids really enjoyed. Turtleback is a great zoo and I have a feeling we'll be making more visits as the summer goes on.

I'm coaching Jamie's softball team and we won our playoff game to advance to the semi-finals (we'll be playing on Wednesday, July 1st). It feels like the neverending season, due largely in part to the incredible rain we've had this past month.

For Jamie's birthday party, we had 10 girls over for a murder mystery dinner party. Each girl received a character description, including how to dress the part and they all showed up ready for the night. As the party went on, the characters would receive cards telling them comments to make and things to do...all along keeping a close eye on everything happening so they could eventually solve the crime. They stayed in character all night and really enjoyed themselves. It was a great party and I would highly recommend it.

My wife spent her summers at Highland Lakes near Vernon, so we often find time to head up to "The Lake" and enjoy the beach, swimming and fishing. It's very relaxing and a great way to spend quality time with the family. My 12 year old nephew caught 3 bass in a row...I finally had to move him aside and take his spot so I could at least catch 1!!!! The kids swam in the lake, played in the sand, and of course, enjoyed a Dairy Queen stop before heading home.
Speaking of ice cream...as I was leaving for work, Jack asked where I was going and so I replied, "Work." He replied back, "So you can make money for me to give to the ice cream man?"
Does it get any better?

Next up, a day of golf with Mr. Phillips and Mr. Heitmann and then a BBQ at Mr. Heitmann's house. We have our next softball game to look forward to and then a long weekend ahead to celebrate 4th of July.
And DON'T FORGET- July 7th
Mr. Phillips and I are sleeping on the roof!!!!!!

Last year, a student gave me a book titled 1,001 Ways to Save the Earth by Joanna Yarrow. Each time I update my page, I will also update a tip on how we can GO GREEN!!!!!!
Next time you're on the computer and you need to take a break, set it to enter power-saving mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. It will revive almost instantly when you return.
