Update 6/20/08

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2008!

I wish you all the best of luck in all your future endeavors.  Whether you are tuning the NY Phil, cooking for the top execs., taking over or saving the world,  or jigging away on stage, you have all been so special to me.  Thank you for everything, and although our paths now diverge, you will all go on to help other people as you all have for me.  I certainly hope you will all meet people that touch your heart the way you have touched mine.  You rule and ROCK ON!

Update 6/5/08

Here is a recap of the previous weeks’ performances:

The 7th and 8th Grade Concert band had a terrific performance at RAS for the parents.   At Dorney Park the following week, they played their best show to date scoring a 92.5 out of 100 and receiving a rating of Superior which is the highest rating possible!   Although they were not in direct competition with any other ensembles their size or age level, they placed third out of all the instrumental ensembles that performed that day including the HS ensembles!   Congratulations!

The HS Concert Band performed at Freeman Gardens on May 29th.   The performance featured the students that were the first beginners I taught at this school nine years ago.   This group represents the end of the “ Jackson ” era as none of these students had any of the previous band directors.   The performance neared perfection.   The music was beautiful, the weather was amazing, and the performance was exceptional!

Tuesday marked another peerformance by the GRHS Percussion Ensemble led by Mr. Tim Alworth.  Featuring an original piece by Darren Gage, the ensemble wowed the crowd with various textures and impressive skill in an often over looked ensemble.  Thanks to all that came out.

Last night the 7th & 8th Grade and HS Jazz Bands performed their final Coffee House of the year.   First, a word of thanks to the parents that brought and sold the coffee and snacks at such short notice.   It makes me feel great that when I make a mistake, there are people who are willing to step up and fix it so all can have the best experience.   As for the performers, both ensembles played really well.   The audience was impressed at the ability of such young students.

I will have CDs and DVDs for most of these performances.  I have to edit them down a little, but you will be able to order them for $5 each.  The proceeds go to our band prgram.  You may email me or fill out one of the order forms when I update the files section and complete the editing.  I will try to have them available by Monday.

There is still one more performance:

June 20th - GRHS Concert Band (8th Grade Band members welcome as well) - Graduation - Times TBA - GRHS Back Field

I will get the details out soon, but please be prepared for about a two hour commitment that day.  For the HS Concert Band, please get me a note ASAP!

Thank you all for this year.   It has been a long and difficult year at times, but as it shows time and again, adversity brings out the best in people and all your hard work and dedication shows brilliantly through in the performances.   I hope you all cherish the memories of your performances this year.   Good Luck in the future to our seniors, I hope you all will stay in touch!   Thanks again all!

Here are all the dates for the performances until the end of the school year.  Please check your calendar's to make sure there are no problems. Most of these performances are on the school calendar, but here is a handy

June 20th - GRHS Concert Band (8th Grade Band members welcome as well) - Graduation - Students - 6:15 PM in the Band Room, Ceremony begins at 7:00 - GRHS Back Field

Please let me know if there are conflicts with any of these dates now so we can handle everything.  I know several people will not be here for the Arts Festival as they have already told me.

We also have our Summer School brochures that have gone home.  I will be distributing brochures in class shortly after break.  I will post the brochure in the files section of the website for you to see.  Thanks and see you all soon!

Update 9/12/07

I have uploaded the lesson schedule and the lesson groups into the files section.  This schedule will be for the entire second marking period.  Please email me with any questions.  Thanks!

Everyone that I have emails from has received an email from me.   You may receive duplicates today if you are in Marching Band and HS Concert Band, but ordinarily you will not.   If you do not receive an email from me, please send me an email from that account and I will add you to the correct list.   This is an important part of communication and I do send out a lot of information through email.   Thanks and see you all next September 20th for Back-To-School!

  Update 9/4/07

Please check the files and links section of this website for many helpful and informative items that will make this class a much easier experience.   There are calendars, music, and other helpful information on this page.   If there are any questions, I can always be reached at klagos@glenridge.org, or my school extension – 2250.

Check out the links section for a Sophia's link.  Sophia Anastasia is a local flute player that has come to our school in the past and spoke to our flute players with techniques that help them improve.  Her website has concert schedules, music, and information for better musicianship.  Thanks for checking it out!

All 7th & 8th Grade and HS Band Members - All students in band should have a spiral notebook, a 1-1 1/2" binder, manuscript paper (music staff paper; a site to print free paper is listed in the links section of this page), four folders with three hoels for the binder), a pencil, and the proper equipment for your instrument. (ie extra reeds, valve oil, proper sticks etc)  We will not be playing the first day of school, but will by the third.  This should be a great year I am really looking forward to.  Thanks and see you all soon!

Below you will find many helpful items such as a calendar with all student dates including outside performances by students and staff, a list of vocabulary words students will be required to know for exams (for real this year), web links to important (and not so important) sites involving music and other interesting information.  If you have any dates you would like to be added to the calendar, please send an email to:

klagos@glenridge.org

I will add the dates to the calendar so all can see.  Thanks for checking out the page, and check back often for updated information.
