July 9th, 2010

I hope everyone is keeping cool! You should have received the clothing order form in the mail last week. I am working with the company now and I need to have everyone's shirt size asap, the money can be mailed later on. Please email me or text me your shirt size so I can get the order started. 

Because of the summer, please mail any payments to my house. This way, I can get them right away and they aren't left in the high school mailbox.

I know you have been getting a lot of emails about the physicals, and I hope that most of you have handed them in by now. If not, it is extremely important that you hand it in ASAP!

Final camp payments are due next week. Please mail your remaining balance to my house. 

Those who have ordered a warm-up, the pants have arrived and the jackets should be coming soon. The payment is needed by July 23rd. 

We will have our first official practice August 10th, 2010 from 9-12 at GRHS.

**** The 2nd camp payment is due next Wednesday the 23rd. You can pay the remaining balance of $180.00 or half $ 90.00 Please place the check in an envelope in the cheer mailbox on the 23rd!!! Please be on time with the payment! Thank you!

If you were unable to attend the cheer meeting this evening, please have your daughter stop by after school tomorrow the 9th. I will be there for uniform fittings and I have a folder for everyone with important camp papers that must be signed and returned!!

Tuesday June 8th, 2010 is Meet the Coaches Night at GRHS. I will be there and would love to use the time for our first parent meeting of the year. We will discuss a bunch of different things so it would be great for everyone to come!

Fall physicals are due ASAP. This year the athletes must go to their own doctors for the physical. The faster the physical packets are handed in, the faster the girls will be cleared and ready to practice.

Please make sure you fill out the entire packet!

** A $50.00 camp deposit was due last WEDNESDAY the 26th. I am still missing a few. PLEASE put the check in the cheerleading mailbox tomorrow, June 1st!!

Just a reminder that I will be meeting the girls after school on Wednesday to collect the camp deposit of $50.00. If they play another sport or cannot make it, please put the deposit in the cheerleading mailbox in the main office! Thanks!

Carwash is this Satuday the 22nd from 10-2 at RAS. Please spread the word! The girls and any volunteers should be at Ridgewood by 9:30am. An email is going around about some supplies we need.

A $50.00 camp deposit is due on May 26th. The check can be made out to GRHS Cheerleading. Please put the check in a labeled envelope. It can be placed in the cheerleading mailbox at GRHS.

Things discussed at cheer meeting on Tuesday April 20th, 2010

- Camp will be August 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th at PINE FOREST CHEER CAMP in PA.

Please contact us if you CANNOT attend camp. It will be a great experience for all the girls. It is a UCA camp, which is one of the largest cheer companies in the country. If we do not have a large turnout we cannot go.

- CARWASH is May 22nd, 2010, from 10-2. We will need to be there by 9:30 to set up. We are looking to work the carwash into 2 shifts, because the Jrs and Srs will be attending the prom the night before. If the girls can stay for the entire time that would be great 

- We are also looking at learning our competition routine the week of August 9th. It will probably be 2 days, for a couple of hours. This works out best for us, because we can learn the routine without trying to schedule around other fall sports.

We are having a cheer meeting on Tuesday April 20th at 3:30 in front of the HS ( weather permitting). We know some girls play a spring sport, but this will be a short meeting about the carwash and discovery series we are holding in Linden School.  Please relay the message to the girls, and we hope that all can make it!

We hope that everyone enjoys the offseason! The girls should continue stretching everyday. We do not want to loose all the things we have gained this season. It would also be a good idea if the girls enrolled in some tumbling classes. We all saw how important tumbling is, especially in the varsity divisions and that seems to be the only area were we may need some work. It is not going to happen overnight so starting classes soon will increase the chances of the girls having back handsprings by next season.

Here are some important date changes! We tried to get dates out to you as soon as possible, but it has been brought to our attention that some dates do not work! The carwash has been rescheduled to SATURDAY MAY 22nd, 2010 from 10am-2pm. We will keep June 12th as a rain date. June 5th is an SAT day. We will be going to camp AUGUST 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, the session in the following week was completely booked and its only march! We hope that we can get as many girls as possible to come to camp! More information will follow! See everyone tomorrow!

There will be a mandatory meeting for all winter cheerleaders on Tuesday the 9th at 3:30pm in the cafe. We will be collecting uniforms. All cheerleaders must bring THEIR CLEAN uniform. Please return all bags and pieces of the uniform on Tuesday. We need the skirt, bodyliner, vest, bag, and red and zebra bow. Please do not send your uniform with someone else. If we do not recieve the uniform on Tuesday, a hold will be placed on your next report card. These uniforms were VERY expensive and we want to keep them in the best condition. 

We will also be discussing some dates for the off season. Money is also due Tuesday for the cheerleading banquet that will be that Thursday the 11th at 6:30pm at the Glen Ridge Country Club. Again, it is $ 35.00 per person. I need to give the country club a head count. THANKS!

There is a semi-final basketball game on Friday at 5:00pm. ALL cheerleaders must be dressed and ready at 4:30pm. NO EXCEPTIONS! Please be on time and ready to go! Thank you!

WOW!! What a performance! We could not be more proud of the girls today! They were fantastic! After looking at the scores, out of the 23 high school teams that competed this afternoon, we had the 5th highest score!!! This season has been amazing    Thank you for all your support and it means so much to us all!

**Just a reminder that the state basketball game in this Monday the 1st at 5:00pm. If they win they will play AWAY on Wednesday. If they win Wednesday, they will play HOME on Friday the 5th at 5:00pm. We will be cheering at both home games! See everyone this afternoon!

We just wanted to say THANK YOU to Brenda for setting up such a wonderful fundrasier at Fitzgerald's on Wednesday! Thank you for everyone who donated, ate, and brought friends and family to support us. We will be able to buy a big chunk of our cheer floor with the funds of this fundraiser.. ..

Well, mother nature has not been so kind to us this season! The competition Saturday has been pushed back one hour. The HS division will being at 3:00pm. The bus will leave GRHS at 1:30pm. We will be performing at 4:50pm.. The times keep changing slightly, so we suggest everyone arriving at the beginning of the high school division. Just a reminder to sit on the PURPLE side of the gym. Because we were not able to practice Thursday or Friday we will be having a quick practice Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30, after we will be heading over the Bramble's for breakfast to celebrate the end of our season... There is plenty of time for the girls to freshen up, eat, and get ready for the competition. As of right now we are looking at awards around 6:30pm.

We just received our times for Saturday. The girls need to be at GRHS by 12:45 for the bus! We do not compete until 4:05pm. This is different from last year because there will be double judging to make sure the afternoon goes quicker. We are facing the PURPLE side. Please sit on the PURPLE side of the gym. It is labeled and there will be people there to tell you where to go. The HS division starts at 2:30. Looking forward to ending the season on a high note! See everyone there!

Directions to Wood Ridge HS

258 Hackensack Street, Wood Ridge, NJ 07075

Parkway North and take the exit for route 3 East. Then follow the signs to route 17 North. Take the Moonachie and Wood-Ridge exit. Take the ramp and make a left at the light that is at the end of the ramp. You will be on Moonachie Avenue which ends at a T intersection and traffic light. Make a right onto Hackensack Street. High school is approximately 2 blocks on your right. Teams will enter through the main doors on Hackensack Street. Spectators should go to the next traffic light ( windsor road), make a right and you'll see the entrance to the gym. 

Parking and seating is tough. High School division begins at 12:45. We perform at 2:40. Please give yourselves enough time.

Next Tuesday's games have been moved to Wednesday the 17th. We will practice on Tuesday the 16th and Thursday the 18th and early in the day on 19th before we all leave for nationals. It is very important that everyone is at practice, we need to get in as much practice as we can before nationals! Thanks for your cooperation.

We would also like to see if anyone is interested in dinner Friday night the 19th in Atlantic City. We thought that it would be nice for us all to go somewhere together. We are thinking around 7:00pm. If you are interested please email us ASAP so we can decide on a place and get some reservations!

Thankfully.. Wood-Ridge has just given us times for Saturday. The girls need to be at GRHS by 10:30am. The doors open for HS at 12:00pm for spectators. They mentioned that the gym is small and the parking is tough. Please get there early so we can have another wonderful cheering section    We are set to perform at 2:40pm. There are 10 teams in our division. This is a BIG competition! It will be perfect practice for Nationals on the 20th! Please wear red and bring all those fabolous noisemakers! I have a feeling times may change slightly come Saturday.. if anything changes you will be first to know!

Competition Information

We will be competing this Saturday the 6th at Nutley HS. The high school is located directly on Franklin Ave. There are 2 other teams in our division and we are scheduled to perform at 11:25am. The girls need to be at GRHS at 9:30am. The doors open at Nutley HS at 10:00am.

The competition will still be held EVEN IF there is snow. They may delay the competition or move it to Sunday. The competition will be over by 1:00pm, so it will not interfere with the Super Bowl. They will call us at 8:30am and let us know what is going on.  If you do not hear from us, we will follow the normal schedule. 

Please give yourself and the girls extra time Saturday morning so we are all on time.

Some information for this week...

Tuesday- Games @ 4:00, Sophia's group cheers JV.

Thursday- Practice @ RAS 3:30-5:30, this may go  a little later we will let the girls know Tuesday

Friday- Practice @ RAS 3:30-5:30.

Saturday- Competition @ Nutley HS. Doors open at 10am. We have not been given times yet, but as soon as we get them we will let you know. As for right now, we can say to meet at GRHS @ 9:30am, with bodyliner and shell on and warm-up over it. We are looking at some different ways to wear our hair. 

*** With only 2 practices this week please make sure you are there on time for both and stay for the entire duration! We need everyone's commitment!

Here are the directions to Saddle Brook HS.  Our division starts at 12:30! Please get there on time! Thanks!!

GSP North to Exit 159. After toll bear right.  At light make a right onto Pehle Avenue.  Follow Pehle Avenue until you come to a traffic light. Turn right onto Saddle River Road. Go 1 block and turn right onto Mayhill Street. There will be 3 houses, then Middle/High School on right.

Information for Saddle Brook Competition is as follows:

Girls must be at the H.S by 10:30am in uniform with warm-up over it. Hair must be up and ready the way we discussed at practice.

The high school division starts at 12:30. 

Our performance time is 1:40pm. There are 8 teams in our division!! There are a lot of high school teams performing, so please get there on time so all parents can sit together to make up a big cheering section.

We are all so excited!! Looking forward to a fun afternoon!

January 16th, 2010

Practice at Just Cheer has been moved to Tuesday night because of mid-terms on Friday. The girls do not have a game or practice that afternoon. The practice will be from 7:30-9:00pm. We will get them out on time! Karen sent out an email about carpooling. Please respond if you can help out. 

We are cheering at the JV game today, so we have no JV game next week. 

The clothing fundraiser has been extended to Friday the 22nd. 

Brenda Cole is also working on a fundraiser night at Fitzgerald's. We would like to raffle off some baskets, if you have ideas or any donations please let us know.

The time is approaching quickly!! We should get times from Saddle Brook for next Sunday the 24th. As soon as they get them to us we will post them!

A few annoucements for this week....

1. We have a parent meeting on Tuesday the 12th between the JV and Varsity game. It should be around 5:30. Please try to have someone there to represent each cheerleader.

2. There will be a bake sale this Wednesday after school.

We will also be practicing at the Just Cheer gym on Thursday January 21st from 7:30-9:00pm. We will not be practicing at RAS that day.

Happy New Year to all! We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday January 12th at 5:15. It will be between the Varsity and JV games. It is important that someone is there for each cheerleader. Thank you!

We also need more parent volunteers to work our concession stand. The sign up list is uploaded to this site under files. We only heard back from one parent. This money we raise will benefit the entire team, so each cheerleader should try to contribute some time. We do have Saturday games for those who cannot help out during the week.

Clothing Fundraiser

Our clothing fundraiser will run from Monday January 4th to Friday January 15th. I am attaching the flyer as a file, feel free to print it out and pass it out to those who would be interested in ordering. The clothing is very good quality and we will be able to display a sample sweatshirt at basketball games and on the morning annoucements. The order forms must be filled out and returned by the 15th. We will have a basket in the main office so order forms can be handed in. Order forms and checks must be in an envelope. We will also need parent volunteers to sort the order. Every piece of clothing comes in its own bag marked with its size so it should be pretty easy. Please let us know if you are able to help out. Thanks!!

** We will not be cheering at the basketball games on Thursday January 7th and Thursday January 21st. We are allowed to use this time for extra practice. 

We will also have  a dress rehearsal on Friday January 22  @ GRHS in the gym @ 6;00pm. This is the time for all friends and family to get a sneak peek at our routine before our first competition on the 24th. Please spread the word!

Happy Holidays! Here are a few updates for the upcoming months...

-Our first competition will be on SUNDAY JANUARY 24th, 2010 @ Saddle Brook High School. The high school division begins at 12:30 , the girls will probably meet at GRHS around 10:30.

- The January calendar is now up on the site, please print out a copy.

-Thank you to the parents who have been helping with our concession stand during the basketball games, we have been very successful. We need to set up a schedule. The game list will be attached and please email us the games where you will be able to help out. 

- Abbey's stunt group will be staying to cheer at the JV game on Tuesday, January 5th.

Decemeber 6th, 2009

Here is the dress code we will be following for the winter season. If the girls do not have the practice shirts yet please try to keep within the colors of the clothing. The girls should be wearing clothing that fits properly. Baggy shirts must be tucked in and try to stay away from pants that are loose and falling off, for they are a distraction and a danger while cheering. Girls should be wearing cheerleading sneakers with white socks.

Tuesdays: Red Glen Ridge Cheerleading Shirt with Black soffee cheer shorts.

Wednesdays: Black GR Cheerleading shirt with zebra writing with Red soffee cheer shorts.

Thursdays: White property of Glen Ridge Cheerleading shirt with Black soffee cheer shorts.

Fridays- Black GRHS CHEER shirt with pink writing and Pink soffee cheer shorts.

** If you have AAA you recieve a discount while booking your hotel room for nationals! :)

A few updates...

The winter season is well underway. The girls are working hard and accomplishing great things! 

*Our first basketball game of the season is on Monday December 21st. The varsity game starts at 4:00 and some of the girls will be staying for the JV game.

*We have another varsity game on Tuesday at 4:00. We will be having our holiday party that evening after the game at the Kents'. The coaches will be provided the food, but feel free to bring whatever you like   We discussed doing a gift card exchange. The gift cards should be $15.00. 

* Hotel information for nationals was given out at practice this week. Rooms must be booked individually. There is no block of rooms for us. Please let us know when your room is booked.

*Finally the 89.00 for the national entry fee is due Friday the 11th.

11/27/09-  Tagging ( canning) is available to those who would like to do it on Saturdays and Sundays at the Quick Check in Bloomfield on Broad Street. We have mentioned it several times at practice and only 3 girls have gone. This is a great way to raise the 89.00 that is due on Decemeber 11th for the entry fee to nationals. If you are interested for next weekend, please email me. 

11/25/09- Girls, if you miss a meeting, practice, game or other scheduled event, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what you missed and how to make it up. The excuse of not knowing or not getting the information in time is no longer an acceptable excuse. 

FYI- If you miss a practice before a game you cannot cheer at the game the following day. For example, if you miss practice on Wednesday you cannot cheer at the game on Thursday. If you miss practice on Friday, you cannot cheer at the game on Tuesday. In the event that this applies to you, you will come to the game and sit in full uniform with the coaches. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. 

11/23/09- The bus for Thursday's game will leave GRHS at 9:30am. Please be ready at the HS by 9:25am. Please bring all parts of your uniform with you. Come with your body liner, vest, and warm -up on! All hair up in a pony tail. Please have your skirt and anything else you may need with you! It is calling for rain so please bring warm clothes for under your warm-up and old cheer sneakers if you have them. We will practice tomorrow from 3;30-5:30 not 5:00. There is a dinner at Abbey's after for the fall girls instead of breakfast on Thursday. Girls will still need a ride over after practice!

** WINTER PRACTICES BEGIN ON TUESDAY DECEMBER 1st! 

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL 

11/18/09- Our last fall practice will be on Tuesday the 24th from 3:30-5:00. Winter girls should try to come to stretch, jump, and practice cheers. We will be playing at Immaculate Conception on Thanksgiving. The game starts at 11:00am. It is so important that all the flyers are stretching all the different body positions we learned everyday!! 

11/14/09- A Few Reminders for this week.. Tuesday and Thursday there will be "captain's practices" please talk to Ashley or Lizzie about a time and place. Wednesday there is a bake sale, there will also be a mandatory winter cheer meeting for all winter cheerleaders at 3:30. The woman from Varsity will be coming to measure the winter girls for uniforms at 4:00pm. I ask that the girls NOT cheering in winter to please bring their uniforms to the meeting so we can check sizes. GIRLS CONTINUE TO STRETCH AND PRACTICE EVERY DAY!!

11/9/09- There is a consolation football game this Saturday the 14th. We will be playing at Hurrell against Wood-Ridge. Kick-off is 1:00pm. Girls must be at the field by 12:00pm. Please make sure you all everything you need with you! The weather is always changing and we need to be prepared!

11/8/09- There is no practice this week because of the school play. We will still be going to Linden tomorrow at 4:30. On Tuesday and Thursday I would like to take the girls that are available to go to the weight room. Fall girls will still go for pizza Thursday evening. I am hoping the girls in the play can meet us after practice. There will be a game this Saturday so even if you are in the school play you must come to the game. Thank you to the girls who let me know of these conflicts in advance. 

11/5/09- On Wednesday November 18th @ 4:00pm winter girls who do not have a uniform will be measured by someone from the uniform company! We will have a winter cheer meeting shortly after. ALL CHEERLEADERS MUST ATTEND! If you know of someone who is not getting our updates please pass the word along. GIRLS, NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO TAKE A BREAK. MAKE SURE YOU ARE STRETCHING, JUMPING, WORKING ON YOUR TUMBLING AND PRACTICING EVERY SINGLE DAY! GO OVER CHEERS AND PRACTICE THE CHOREOGRAPHY FOR OUR COMPETITION ROUTINE. 

** I only got 8 responses back about our trip to nationals. Judging by these responses, it looks like we will be staying in the hotel the night before nationals. ALL CHEERLEADERS MUST STAY IN THE SAME HOTEL. I WILL BE SENDING HOME INFORMATION SHORTLY! Email me with any questions. Thanks! 

 11/3/09- A big round of applause for the Fall Cheerleaders on their performance this evening! We had a great score when compared to teams that were more then twice our size! Keep up the good work! 

10/31/09- Please email Coach whatever you may be missing from your Joe Corbi order. I am sorry for this inconvience and I will fix the problem ASAP. Congratulations to the girls on such a successful season thus far. At every football game I hear wonderful compliments from the GR fans. I would like to take the Fall Cheerleaders to Angelo's for dinner on Thursday the 12th. Please clear the calendar so that you are able to attend.

Reminder for Tuesday
Cheer for a Cure at Bloomfield HS. Please get to Bloomfield High School by 5:00pm. PARKING AND SEATING IS VERY DIFFICULT! It would be nice for all the parents and fans to sit together to make up a nice loud cheering section. This is based on a half-time crowd appealing routine. Participation from the crowd is necessary!

10/25/09- We have a busy week this week! This Thursday evening we will be volunteering at the Jack-O-Lantern Festival at Forest Avenue School. Practice will end promptly at 5:15. The girls will then go over to Abbey's house for pizza and then we will walk over to Forest. We should be finished by 7:30. Girls should bring their warm-up, bow, and sneakers.

Wednesday- Joe Corbi delivery at 4:00 @ Lizzie's. Parent Meeting at 6:00pm.

Thursday- Practice 4:00-5:15, Forest Avenue @ 6:00pm.

Saturday- Game @ MKA ( Fingers crossed for NO RAIN)

** This is a crazy week! We will be preparing for the Cheer for a Cure on Tuesday November 3rd @ 6:00pm in Bloomfield High School! 

10/23/09- Tomorrow's game will be played in Newark due to field conditions at Hurrell. Our bus will leave GRHS at 11:45am. Girls should bring their warm-ups, old sneakers, and whatever is left of their poncho. The game will be played at Unterman Field. The address is 321 Chancellor Avenue Newark, NJ 07112. The after party is at the Catalano's. Please bring a dessert. 

***REMINDER THAT JOE CORBI NEEDS TO BE PICKED UP ON WEDNESDAY AT LIZZIE O'BRIENS. THERE IS ALSO A PARENT MEETING THAT EVENING AT 6:00PM IN THE CAFE. YOU WILL BE MEETING OUR NEW ASSISTANT COACH AND DISCUSS IMPORTANT WINTER CHEER ISSUES. THANKS!!!

10/18/09- Great Job selling Joe Corbi!!  Orders will be delievered on Wednesday the 28th at 4:00pm! Tuesday the 20th we will have our winter sign-ups! We also have practice that day from 4:00-5:30! The fee of $35.00 for choreography is due Tuesday as well. Checks can be made out to GRHS Cheer. Our winter parent meeting will be Wednesday October 28th, 2009 at 6:00pm in the cafe. We need to discuss very important issues regarding the winter season. PLEASE ATTEND!  We will have practice on Friday October 30th from 3:30-5:00 it was just added to our schedule!

10/14/09- The game Saturday is AWAY! I know there was some confusion about this. We will be playing at James Caldwell HS. 

10/10/09- REMINDER** There is a football dinner after EVERY home game. All cheerleaders are required to attend and must bring a dessert. Thank you!

10/7/09- Saturday's football is at 2:00pm due to SATS. Cheerleaders must be at the field by 1:00pm. Hope to see everyone there! 

10/5/09- Welcome to our website! I will use this site to update us all on information! I have added the calendar, cheer contract and lists of football and basketball cheers! I just wanted to take the time to thank Karen Kent for her help this season! We would be lost without her! Congratulations to the girls on a job well done at choreography camp this weekend. I am so proud and excited for the girls to have made such wonderful progress in a few short months! 

Please remember that the Joe Corbi orders must be in to me by October 15th! Please fill out the entire white envelope and hand that in with one check. The orders will arrive on Wednesday the 28th at 4:00pm. Everything will go to the O'Brien house on Wildwood Avenue. All orders MUST be picked up on this day! Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

The $35.00 choreography fee is due by October 20th. Checks can be made out to GR Cheerleading.

Don't forget about our half-time competition at Bloomfield High School on November 3rd @ 6:00pm! Tell family and friends to come cheer us on in support of a wonderful cause!

We will be volunteering at the Forest Avenue Jack-O-Lantern festival on Thursday the 29th. We do not have a time yet. I will get it to you ASAP!
