Next Year's Placement

• Dear Parents/Guardians,

   

  As we head towards the fourth marking period at Ridgewood Avenue School, it signals a busy time of year.   We are preparing for the end of the school year and at the same time are beginning to plan for next year.   One of the more important aspects of next year is the placement of students.   The teachers and the administrators dedicate many hours towards this task.

   

  There are many factors that are taken into consideration when placing students.   These include learning levels, behavioral needs, learning styles, teaching styles, emotional and social growth, gender ratios, class size and the availability of special programming. Therefore, due to the reasons listed above, we do not encourage special requests, nor do we guarantee the ability to be able to honor any request made.

   

  When class placement decisions are made, they reflect our best judgment based upon individual and group needs.   Hence, we cannot disregard this process and reconstruct classes based on parent requests.   Every effort is made to address the specific need of each student.  

   

  If you feel that you must make a request regarding your child’s placement, it should not indicate a particular teacher, but should rather explain your child’s specific needs.   These concerns about your child’s needs and placement for next year should be put in writing and sent or emailed to me by April 24, 2009.

   

  We trust that you will understand our position in this matter.   Your support and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.  

   

  Enjoy the remainder of the school year.   We look forward to seeing you at one of the many events taking place at Ridgewood Avenue over the next few months.

• Every year our school has numerous community service projections.  This year is no different.  In the month of March we have collected the following items:

• Pajama and new books for children waiting to be adopted
• Gently used books for Literacy Program in Orange
• New caps for Put a Cap on Cancer
• Pennies for Pennies for Peace
• New and used cd's and dvd's for soldiers
• We recycle: bottles, cans, paper, juice boxes, glue sticks, cell phones, and printer ink cartridges

• RAS will be celebrating two special weeks in the months of March and April. 

• The week of March 23rd will be Nutrition Week
• The week of April 20th will be Rhino Week       

•  I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy our new garden by the auditorium.  We have recently added a bench and a sundial.  I want to thank Kelly Forsyth for all her assistance throughout the entire project.  Joe Baione did a tremendous job with the benches, thank you. 
• We have added garden boxes to the other side of the auditorium and we be planting this Spring.

• Our next garden project will be the courtyard.  Please send any ideas you may have to me, dphillips@glenridge.org

• Rhino Reading is going strong.  2 MILLION MINUTES goal was reached.  Mr. Donovan and I as a reward will be sleeping on the roof.  Stay tuned for further details. 

Please keep encouraging your child to read every day.  There are many outstanding books on our suggested reading list.
