    ABOUT ME

Hi!

My name is Nanci Kelly.   I have the pleasure of teaching AIM (Activating Inquisitive Minds) at Joe K. Bryant Elementary School .   This is my fourth year to work with AIM students and my eighteenth year to teach for Anna ISD.   I have previously taught in five other schools districts, and I have taught Kindergarten through seniors.

I live on a farm that has been in our family for over 140 years.   I have four children all of whom graduated from Anna High School .   My oldest, Lauren, a graduate of Texas A&M–Commerce, is married to Brian, and mother of Grant and Makena. Natalie, a graduate of University of Texas at Dallas , is married to Jonathan, and mother of Gavin.  Drew and his new bride Nicole are graduates of  Austin College.  Drew is attending Texas A & M School of M edicine-College Station.   Logan is a senior at Texas A&M-Commerce where he is captain of the cross country team and a member of the track team. Logan was  awarded scholarships for this year as a Mayo Scholarship finalist, and from Texas Amatuer Athletic Foundation and the Glaser Foundation.

I like to cook, read, garden, and spend time with my family.

                             Change, Change, Change

Our theme for this year is CHANGE.   It was our theme just four years ago, but one thing is very obvious, in Anna we continue to change all the time.   This year two major changes are the addition of yet another new elementary school and a second teacher for our elementary AIM program.

First grade starts off the year studying animals by using Steve Jenkins’ Actual Size.   Second grade will begin with rocks, earth science, and volcanoes.   Third grade will concentrate on the every changing water cycle through water exploration and experiments.   Fourth graders will work on the State Standards Project “We Are Texans.”   Fifth grade will first look at explorers of the New World .

This should be another exciting, ever changing year.   Mrs. Slaughter and I will be planning together, so we should enjoy many of the same activities even though our AIM students of last year are split on two campuses.

           FALL FESTIVAL

A great BIG THANKS to all who helped make the AIM booth at the Fall Festival a success.  Your baskets were wonderful.  I truly appreciate all you do to help.

         Classroom Up-Date

Kindergarten is developing critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills.

First grade is currently researching information about insects.

Each second grader is researching the dinosaur of her choice, and each student will present her individual projects that will demonstrate what she has learned.

Third grade is learning about economics, inventors, and toys.

Fourth grade will each present his/her museum display  for the project We Are Texans.  Each student selected and researched a group of immigrants who came to Texas in the 1800's. Each student will have a minimum of ten items in the museum display.

Fifth grade is currently completing work and presentaions abour inventions that affect our lives today.  They are also c0mpleting information that will be used for placement in the middle school program.
