Welcome to Room 28's Classpage!
Second Grade ~ Mrs. Nancy App
We are also known as Modular 1. Our class is located in the trailer next to the driveway that leads to the back playground.
I hope you had a wonderful summer with your family and are excited about starting second grade. We have a great year ahead of us!
School Rules
1. Take care of yourself.
2. Take care of others.
3. Take care of your school.
4. Do your best!
Birthdays
Feel free to send in a small treat for your child's birthday. If we are not in school on your child's birthday, pick a different day and we will celebrate. Please send birthday invitations in the mail unless all of the children in the class are invited or a boy invites all of the boys or a girl invites all of the girls. We have discussed this during our Morning Meeting so the students know that trying to secretly give invitations out at school is not appropriate. This avoids hurt feelings and many tearful moments for the birthday child and the uninvited students! Thanks for your cooperation in this.

Homework Assignments

In the beginning of the year, we will be starting homework in the classroom so that the students can learn how to do the assignments correctly. Each of the single homework sheets will be taped (or glued) into the child's composition book. Your child will need your help until this becomes part of a daily routine. Please check your child's homework assignment book daily for specific assignments and reminders. Please sign the assignment book every day! Thank you!
General Homework Assignments
Reading: Your child must read for two steps (30 min.) and record both steps in the 100 Book Challenge Reading Log. Please sign the log each time your child reads!
Writing: Some writing assignments may be sent home. If they are marked "On Your Own", please do not help your child with them. Occasionally, classroom writing pieces may have to be finished at home or edited with an adult if the writing was not completed in the time given during class.
Spelling
Spelling homework will be based on your child's spelling level on the Ganske Spelling Inventory.
Handwriting: Occasional assignments may be given.
Math: Keep the HomeLinks (the math homework book) in a safe place at home. You might need to help your child tear out the assigned page. Always keep practicing your math facts!!!!!
Looking for a great site to practice math facts?
You can go in and set the program up to work on all the problems up to 9 + 9 and you can change the timer. In class we will be working on 100 problems in 3 minutes. Also, plug in the numbers to practice your multiplication facts, too!
Social Studies & Science: Occasional assignments may be given.
You may email me at school through this website. I will reply to all emails within 24 hours. Occasionally, our server goes down and we lose our access to our email. Also, please remember that substitutes do not have access to my email so if your message is time-sensitive, please send a note in with your child instead of writing an email.
