~June~
Important Information/Events:
100 Book Challenge -- Students should be at 700 by Monday, June 1, 2009.

Please remember to sign the log sheet each night!
Students should be reading 10 steps per week in school and at least 10 steps per week at home! One step equals 15 minutes of reading. This is a total of 20 steps per week.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Students are fully immersed in our unit on Growing Up. We have finished Literature Circles. Your child either read Hoot, Face on the Milk Carton, Lightning Thief, or Among the Hidden. Within the different Literature Circle groups, each child was given a specific role to facilitate group discussion. Your child either served as a Discussion Director, Connector, Literary Luminary, Illustrator, Travel Tracer, or Vocabulary Finder. Ask to see their paperwork in the "Writing Workshop" section of their binder!
Over the next month, students will be actively engaged in guided writing, focusing on "biographies" and "memoirs". Grammar lessons on dialogue, punctuation, topic sentence structure and all writing conventions will be included throughout the writing process. Students will all be involved in a biography group 'edit'. Students will also continue reading workshop on alternate days, focusing on reading activities about growing up.
HOMEWORK

Homework will be assigned approximately 2-3 times per week. Homework completion is a part of the Language Arts grade. When homework is completed on time, students receive full credit. If a student does not have their assignment in class at their desk when I am walking around to check, they will lose the credit for that assignment. It is the student's responsibility to show me the assignment the next day.
