Information for Parents
In Geometry, we cover the entire book. The material is arranged in the SPUR approach, as outlined below.
Presentation
The text presents the material and outlines objectives in the SPUR approach.
S represents Skills: how to arrive at an answer.
P stands for Properties and examines the notion that understanding why we follow certain steps is as important as understanding how we perform the operations. Uses is represented by U.
Here, we investigate how the mathematics applies to the real world.
Finally, Representations is designated by R.
Models and graphs are prevalent in this phase.

Extra help
I stay after school each day.
If your son or daughter needs additional help with the material we are learning, they know to ask if I am available after school (at times we have faculty meetings) and to come to room 277 at the end of the day. If your child is involved with sports, I will write a note to the appropriate coach to excuse him/her from practice.

How parents can help
1. Homework
Your son or daughter has math homework every night. They do not complete homework during class time, so unless they have a study hall, the math book should be coming home.
I assign approximately 12-18 problems per section.
On some days, we cover one section; on other days we cover two sections.
There are more than 80 sections to cover over a 90 day term.
We need to move at a pace which allows us to cover all the material, permit time for review, permit time for testing and permit time for final exam review.
2. Encourage your child to ask questions
The best time to ask a question is when we are covering a problem that your child does not understand.
I constantly encourage the students to ask questions if they are confused.
I applaud those who do!
Chances are that others in the class are also not clear and need clarification.
3. Contact me with questions and concerns

4. Monitor absences
If you child misses a class, he or she is responsible to make up the missed work.
Your son or daughter has the phone number of 3 classmates to call to obtain the material.
Assignments that your child was present to receive are due the day he or she returns.
Assignments given while your child was absent are due the day after he or she returns.
However, the homework quickly piles up, so I encourage your child to make every attempt to complete what he or she missed while at home.
