COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

NOTE TO ALL STUDENTS/PARENTS: IF A STUDENT MISSES A CLASS, HE/SHE NEEDS TO MAKE UP THE CLASSWORK OR THE MISSING DAY WILL COUNT AS A "0" ON THE CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADE!!! THIS INFORMATION IS COMMUNICATED WITH ALL STUDENTS ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS AND IS IN THE COURSE SYLLABI.

SCULPTURE

The Sculpture Course provides the opportunity for students to acquire the skill necessary to manipulate a variety of materials. Students will explore major principles, concepts, techniques, materials, and tools of the sculptor. Media may include latex for masks, plaster, clay, wood or stone. Students who take a second semester of sculpture will create more expressive and original sculptural pieces. Greater emphasis will be placed on the human figure. Students are required to enter at least one piece in the Celebration of the Arts exhibit.

There is a $25 lab fee for this course. This course is recommended for students who are considering taking AP 3-D as Seniors.

 

 

FUNCTIONAL CERAMICS  (one semester course)

 

Students will develop an appreciation for functional ceramics by having the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of concepts, methods, and techniques.   The course focuses on personal creative expression as it is linked to artistic and cultural heritage, and on participation in studio work and critiques. Students will learn a variety of hand-building techniques and will learn to use the potter’s wheel. The Internet is used as a research tool. Students are required to enter at least one piece in Celebration of The Arts.

 

SCULPTURAL CERAMICS  (one semester course)

 

Students will develop an appreciation for sculptural ceramics by having the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of concepts, methods, and techniques.   The course focuses on personal creative expression as it is linked to artistic and cultural heritage, and on participation in studio work and critiques. Students will focus on meaning and symbolism in art as it relates to their artwork and to the artwork of professional artists. The Internet is used as a research tool. Students are required to enter at least one piece in Celebration of The Arts.

TILEMAKING: IMPRESSION AND EXPRESSION  (one semester course)

 

Students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of tilemaking methods, and techniques including stamping, mold making, picture mosaics and traditional and contemporary mosaics.   The course focuses on personal creative expression as it is linked to artistic and cultural heritage – specifically Pennsylvania tile artists - and on participation in studio work and critiques. The Internet is used as a research tool. Students are required to enter at least one piece in Celebration of The Arts.

 

 

CLAY CLUB and OPEN STUDIO TIMES

CLAY CLUB MEETS ON TUESDAYS FROM 3:00 - 4:30 IN THE CERAMICS STUDIO. CLAY CLUB TIMES ARE OPEN TO ANY STUDENTS.

OPEN STUDIO TIMES ARE LIMITED TO MS. BELTON'S CERAMICS AND SCULPTURE STUDENTS ONLY.OPEN STUDIO TIMES ARE SCHEDULED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR - CHECK THE SCHEDULE ON THIS WEBSITE OR ON THE CHALKBOARD IN MS. BELTON'S ROOM.
