Arts Gala March 28, 2009 Evening of the Arts  5th Grade Performance of Pirates, the Musical

Kindergarden:   We are feeling much more comfortable dancing and singing and improvising simple songs.  Playing hand percussion and having fun in music class, the time seems to fly.

1st Grade:  We finally play the xylophones after looking at them all last year in Kindergarten.  We are learning about mallots, tone bars, high and low pitch, fast and slow beats.  Singing and dancing and loving music is what we look forward to each week.  We even act out stories we read!  The Magic Fish is being prepared for recording.

2nd. Grade:  We have begun our study of  Hansel and Grettel, the opera.  We are learning songs and dances from the production   Our xylophone study will continue as well.

3rd. Grade:  Our recorder study has just begun and finding a place to practice is always an important aspect of learning.  Parents, please help in this matter also in reminding your son or daughter to bring the recorder and music to music class each week!  Practice should be 5 days a week for 15 mins. each.  This will make a confident recoreder player!!!  So far everyone seems to be enjoying a new experience in making music.

4th Grade:  Square Dancing is our main focus at this time.  We are learning the basic steps and having fun dancing with a partner.  Chorus members that attended the concert are invited to sing at the Gala Fund Raiser at the end of March.

5th Grade:  The 5th grade Chorus will perform their concert during the Evening of the Arts.  The name of our concert is Pirates, the Musical.  All chorus members will be asked to dress as a pirate.  The Drama Club will perform with the chorus in this clever presentation.  Also Mrs. Curson will incorporate some pirate art in many of her classes.  We are continuing our xylophone study with two mallots.  The Georap is helping us become more solid with our Math facts.  Rhythm Basketball is a game we like to play that challenges our rhythmic sight-reading.
