How to Succeed in Math Class
·
Pay attention in class, participate with questions and answers in class, take good notes that illustrate how problems are solved and not just what the answers are.
·
Catch up on missed work. Get the notes from a friend in class and complete any missed homework assignments. See me in the mornings if you are having difficulty getting caught up.
·
Review your notes and the accompanying sections in the book to help solve homework problems.
·
Always take your homework seriously, show
ALL
of your work, and attempt
EVERY
problem.
·
Every night after you have completed your homework, spend an additional 5 to 15 minutes reviewing the day’s notes, the notes of previous sections, and the examples from these sections in your class book. Quiz yourself with problems from the notes and the book. Believe me when I say that an additional 5 to 15 minutes each night makes a HUGE difference in your test grades and ultimately your marking period grades.
·
See me for help in the mornings between 7:40 and 8:00 with questions anytime
but don’t wait until the last minute
, like the day of the test, to see me.
·
Always come to class prepared.
·
Don’t lose your book or your notes.
How to Study for Math
·
When preparing for a test,
don’t wait until the night before the test to study!
Start studying for the test as soon as you know about the test.
·
The best way to prepare
yourself for a math test
is to practice problems
. Reading through the notes does help but it is not enough. You need to actually put pencil to paper in order to get good and to truly understand how different mathematical concepts work. Even if you have already solved particular problems in homework assignments or in the notes, you should not hesitate to solve them again and again. Quiz yourself by practicing book problems, especially the odd problems. The answers to the odd problems are in the back of the book, so you know when you have solved the problems correctly!
