Focus:  The 6th grade Computer Skills course provides foundation skills to enable students to effectively, efficiently and responsibly utilize technology and information sources.  The Computer Applications curriculum emphasizes 21st Century skills to communicate, problem-solve and collaborate in an ever-complex global society.

7th-Desktop Publishing

This cycle course begins with an introduction to entrepreneurship.   Students learn about being self-employed and the risks involved.   About half way through the marking period we begin our desktop publishing simulation “Frillio’s Pizza.”   Students create/design various business documents. For example, letterheads, logos, and coupon flyers.   For a more detailed explanation about what we will be doing with Frillio’s Pizza, please visit www.FrilliosPizza.com

8th- Database -

In this course students will be learning spreadsheet skills.  They will be able to apply spreadsheet graphs into Microsoft Word as well as create simple formulas.  The second part of this course covers database skills using Microsoft Access.  Students learn how to create and modify a database and learn to apply search filters to their work.    At the end of the course students complete a research project that incorporates Microsoft Excel and Word together. Students research different restaurants and compare meals, which they typically eat when they visit them.   Calories and total fat are compared between restaurants to see what restaurant is the healthiest. The students then turn in a report incorporating graphs and charts based on their findings.
