6th Grade: Students assigned to Wellness  for the  1st or 4th marking period will complete the D.A.R.E. program. DARE is a collaborative program in which Marple Police and Paxon Hollow Wellness Department join together to educate students about personal and social consequences of substance abuse. www.dare.com The following Marple Police Officers will instruct the ten lessons required.

D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The D.A.R.E. program will include 9 lessons and a  graduation assembly.

I will grade the students on the following assessments.

D.A.R.E. workbook completed (25 points )

D.A.R.E. Essay completed (25 points)

D.A.R.E. Poster(positive prevention message or clear no use message  50 points)

Students will be given class time to complete the essay and DARE book. The poster is to be completed at home. 

Students assigned to Wellness for the 2nd and 3rd Marking Period will complete the following units:

Safety/First Aid : All students will complete a basic first aid course in conjunction with the American Red Cross.

Community Health: A research based class. Students will research a community health organization and prepare a project to share with the class.

      

7th Grade:  1st  or 4th Marking Period Physical Education classes will be completing a unit on Physical Fitness.

Grading includes:

Preparation for class (shirt & shorts) 

Class participation 

Youth active lifestyle log (homework) 

Physical fitness test 

2 by 2 fitness 

Heart rate lesson 

Fitness activity circuit 

2nd Marking Period Physical Education classes will complete the following units: badminton,officiating, bowling and ping pong.

Grading includes:

Preparation (shirts and shorts)

Class Participation

Bowling assessment

Officiating quiz

Badminton assessment

3rd Marking Period Physical Education classes will complete the following Uints: square dance, basketbal,juggling and handball.

Grading includes:

Preparation (shirts and shorts)

Participation

Square Dance Assessment

Basketball Routine

Juggling assessment

 

 8th Grade:  Physical Education units for the 1st marking Period will include  physical fitness testing,  golf, biking, waveboards. The Unit for the 2nd marking period is  an introduction to weights. Units for the 3rd marking period includes Basketball  

Grading includes:

Preparation for class (shirt & shorts) 

Class participation 

Creating a personal training log 

Note: an additional unit on dance or games will be included if time allows

 

 

 

 

 

 

 7th Grade:  Physical Education homework for the 1st and4th marking period includes completion of Youth Active Lifestyle Log

This form is part of the Presidential Physical Fitness Program and will be due the last week of the marking period. Students will chart physical activity for 6 weeks.
