WE REALLY BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL DO A GREAT JOB ON THIS YEAR!!!!

THE ONLY WAY TO BECOME A GOOD STUDENT IS TO DEVELOP SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIES.   LOOK AT THE LIST OF ITEMS DOWN BELOW.  I KNOW THEY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU WANT THEM TO.   YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU WANT TO.

STUDY TIPS FOR SUCCESS

1. Write down what the learning objective and your homework is each day in class.

2. Decide on a time each day that is best for you to complete your homework.

3. Find a quiet place to do your work each night . (Not talking on the phone, watching T.V., playing Playstation or X-Box, etc.)

4. Each night review what you covered in class by reading over notes, etc.

5. Put all work in specific place in your folder or trapper so it is easy to find the next day at school.

6. Put everything in your backpack the night before so you don't leave completed work at home.

7. Study for all Tests in advance. (Don't procrastinate)

8. Believe in yourself and give your best effort.  (Don't settle for second best)

9. Do the Bonus Questions each night to help your grade in class.

We will do CURRENT EVENTS each week -  all year long. (Due on Thursday)

COMMUNICATION

Do not ever hesitate to contact me by email.  I am usually able to respond sooner by email than by phone.  Keeping communication open if you have questions will help make your child's 8th Grade experience more positive and successful.  My email address is jerry.durbin@jefferson.kyschools.us if you need to reach me for any reason. I do check email every day here at school. Some days it is down, but I will make every effort to contact you in a very prompt manner. Please don't forget we have almost 150 students on our team, so sometimes it gets a little chaotic.

THE AVERAGE DAILY CLASS IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Students will be viewing powerpoints in class and participating in Lecture/Discussion classes on the material covered.  If they read the night before like they are required to do, then they can be active participants in the class instead of just sitting there.  We will also be doing long-term and short term projects.  Students are required to keep a History Binder that consists of Five Divided Sections: 1) Warm-ups  2) Learning Targets    3) Notes   4) Other Papers   5) Extra Paper which count toward their grade.

Students will have nightly work to review the core content knowledge that we cover daily.

THERE WILL BE HOMEWORK EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK IN AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS!!!!

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN STUDY FOR THEIR TESTS IN ADVANCE.

Happy CyclopsDon't forget there are daily bonus points down below!Happy Cyclops

There are some very interesting links that have been added at the bottom of the web page. Go and check them out. Some have interesting activities and some are just plain and simple interesting. Many of these will reinforce and introduce ideas about Government and the Constitution.

WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY STUDYING

***We are working on our Colonial Region Partner Project.  We began this on Monday, September 30.  Students will work in class on their Power Points in class through Friday, October 11.  Presentations of their Power Points will be next Monday and Tuesday, October 14 and 15 (4-7 minutes long).  Students will fill out colonial charts during the presentations on each colony.  They also should be working on their nightly worksheets and current events.  The Chapter 3 Celebration of Knowledge (Test) will take place on Thursday, October 17.  The study guide is in the files section of this web page.***

PARENTS PLEASE TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING IN AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS.

THE MORE YOU ASK AND DISCUSS IT WITH THEM, THEY RETAIN AND MAKES IT EASIER FOR THEM ON THEIR TESTS AND ON THE KPREP TEST IN MAY!!!!
