Welcome to art class at Lakemore Elementary School!
My name is Mrs. Kelli Wyss and I have been teaching elementary art for
the past twelve years. I received my bachelor degree from Kent State
University with a major in art education and a minor in secondary
education. I am currently working on my MAT masters degree program. My
philosophy of art education is to provide my students with a varied
studio experience working with a variety of art mediums incorporating
art history and art appreciation. I believe in placing the emphasis on
the art "process" rather than on the product. Students will be
additionally graded on the three C's (craftsmanship, creativity, and
completion). I ask all my art students to please bring in an art shirt
to be worn during painting, clay, and paper mache projects. All the
supplies I use are safe for children and non-toxic. However, some of
the pigments in the paint do stain clothing. You will notice that your
child does not bring their art projects home each week. Many of our
projects take several weeks to complete and I display many of our art
projects in the art room or in the hallways of our school. Each year I
select ten pieces of student art to send to the Summit County Art Expo,
held at the Portage Lakes Career Center and sponsored by the Green
School District's PTA. The Expo generally runs through the month of May
and is free to the general public. I would like to invite all the
parents of my students to feel free to stop by the art room any time
you are visiting our school. I am available for conferences during both
the fall and spring conference schedule. If any question or concern
should arise at any time, please call me at Lakemore (330) 798-1005
ext.5519. I look forward to working with you and your child to provide
an enriching and engaging art education.
