Parents,
We are finishing our work on Measurement and Fractions and have already taken the Common Assessment for this unit. We have two final short quizzes to take to complete the unit. We will then start our unit on Algebra and Patterns/Functions. Most of the algebra lessons will be completed in class as we use a manipulative system and work through the lessons together. In Social Studies we are studying Government. Lessons for both Math and Social Studies are in your child's binder.
Adjustments in assignments and how those assignments were weighted in your child's grade have been made. All quizzes and tests are weighted the most. The weight for any Common Assessments given are also being adjusted in Science and Social Studies. Students are given study guides and practice problems before the quiz or test is taken. It is very important for your child to look over those study guides before taking any test. A new math quiz on area and perimeter was taken on March 5th and the original quiz grade was removed. New interims will be sent home after the adjustments have been made. We apologize for the confusion when the interims were sent home recently.
We have many lessons remaining to cover before we take our State Tests in April. It is very important for your child to attend school each day to participate in the lessons. Please check the school newsletter for testing dates so that doctor, dentist, and any other appointments can be avoided that week. Please check to make sure your child has the necessary supplies to complete work throughout the day.
As we head toward those testing dates, we will begin to pick up the pace as far as covering and reviewing lessons as we get closer. It is most imortant for your child to take his/her binder home (especially in math) and look over lessons, review the written words and examples. If he/she does not understand questions should be asked in class. Parents are not expected to teach lessons a second time. Reading through the steps or notes is the most helpful thing to do for your child.
Hopefully the snow will melt and we will see sunshine a little more. Enjoy your Spring Break. It is the first week in April. I hope your child comes back well rested for the final reviews for testing. Thank you for caring about your child's education.
