Welcome Back! I am looking forward to meeting each child and having an excellent year. School begins Tuesday, August 24th.
D.I.R.T.
We have a schoolwide program that helps students to become better readers D.I.R.T.. It stands for Daily Individual Reading Time. We will begin in September. First Grade students are required to read each night for 10 minutes. Books and poetry will come home frequently and can be used for D.I.R.T. minutes. Remember the more a child reads the better they get. Please remember to fill out and sign your child's D.I.R.T. sheet nightly.
W.O.R.M.
Our school also has a math program W.O.R.M which stands for Working on Roosevelt Math. Students in first grade are required to practice some kind of math (counting money, flash cards, counting orally, etc.) for 5 minutes each night. Sometimes I may send something home that you and your child can work on together. You may count that as minutes. Don't forget to sign your child's W.O.R.M. sheet every night.
