October
Week six already of kindergarten! I am very pleased with how much the students are learning in school and are in the full swing of things now. Many students have mastered most of their letters and are now working on the sounds. Our new reading will focus on one letter a week. We will learn the sound as well as words that contain that specific letter. Writing in our journal is also something that we work on every day. Students need to learn their letter sounds so they are able to write/sound out more words in their sentences. Now that the students know the words I and see many are using them to create I see...type sentences in their journals. The students have already come a long way in this and I can't wait for you to see it at conference time in November.
Our first progress report went home last Friday. I hope you had a chance to go over it with your child. Many have accomplished a great deal already and I hope our next one in November will even show more growth.
We are starting our ABC books this week. Each Wednesday your child will be taking his/her ABC book home to complete the assigned page. The books DO NOT need to be returned the following day, please return them by Monday. Take your time and complete them nicely to create a wonderful memory book with your child.
Thank you,
Mrs. Slone
