Homework
Homework is the most important aspect of this class. The homework exercises are where you will practice any new material, and review previously learned material.
An assignment will be given with each lesson, to be completed before the lecture of the next lesson begins. I will collect homework and grade it thoroughly--point values will vary from 10 - 50 points per assignment.
Homework guidelines: Done on graph paper only Done in pencil only Neat & Complete
I will be using the Study Table this year. If a student has more than 2 missing assignments, ST will be assigned. The student will remain assigned to ST until the work is made up. Each time a student falls behind more than 2 assignments, ST will be utilized.
The following policy will be used in grading Homework and Tests:
“A“, “B“, “C“, or “M” ight need more time
If a student does not achieve mastery on any assignment or test, an “M” will be placed in Progress Book until a “redo” is completed and found to be at mastery level. The highest grade possible on a “redo” is a C. Study Table may be required BEFORE a “redo” is issued.
If a homework assignment is not turned in, an “M” will be placed in Progress Book until it is completed at mastery level. The highest grade possible on a late assignment is a B. If a student has more than 2 missing assignments, Study Table will be assigned.
If assignments are not completed by TEST day, the student will receive an “M” for the test, and will not take the test until all assignments are completed at mastery level. If a student does not take the test on time, the highest grade possible will be a B.
Assignment and test grades will not be entered until a mastery level is completed--an INCOMPLETE will be put on the grade card until the student completes the work at mastery level. Study Table may be required to achieve mastery level.
This means that RE-4 is now a ZAP ZONE……Zeros Aren’t Possible!!!
Late Work (refer to above policy)
Late assignments will be accepted, but the highest grade possible will be a B. All chapter homework must be completed before the chapter test is taken. Remember this is a COLLEGE LEVEL course and you should conduct yourself accordingly--there is no valid excuse for late work.
Code of Ethics
For various reasons, I feel it is necessary to outline what is acceptable and unacceptable in my class….Any infractions of these behaviors will be penalized (point deductions, loss of credit, phone call home, whatever is deemed appropriate).
The following are examples of acceptable behavior
Checking your odd answers in the back of the text--you will generally not be graded on these problems. Copying these answers without understanding the concept makes not sense.
Asking another student for help
Studying with other students for a test or quiz. At this time, you may share papers that have been graded and returned as long as all students involved have completed those papers.
The following are examples of unacceptable behavior
Looking at another student’s paper. You may get or give help by discussing how to do a problem or by showing the work on a scrap piece of paper.
Looking at another student’s paper if that paper is to be turned in for a grade.
Asking or giving information about the problems on a test.
If you have any questions concerning any of these policies, feel free to ask.
Notebook
A neat and well organized notebook is a must. There will be no grade attached, but it will be very helpful in reviewing for tests and quizzes.
Make up Work
If you are absent 1 day, you have 2 days to catch up. If you are absent 2 days, you have 3 days to catch up, etc.
Tardy to Class
Upon a student’s third tardy to class, an after school detention will be assigned. Each additional tardy will result in an additional detention. If you are late to class more than 5 times in any nine-week grading period, you will be referred to the office.
Grading Scale
A 93 - 100
B 85 - 92
C 77 - 84
D 70 - 76
F 69 or below
Grades will be based on points from homework, quizzes and tests.
Students need to have passing grades on 2 of the 3 grades at the end of the semester to receive credit in the course (i.e.. 9wk, 9wk, semester exam).
Progress Book
Grades are kept on Progress Book. You may access a students' grade at anytime. Feel free to email with questions anytime--after checking the computer grade.
