What an exciting week we have coming up. We will be making our penguin Valentine bags on Monday in preparation for our party on Friday. Please purchase a box of Valentines for your child. Have YOUR CHILD fill out a Valentine for each of his/her classmates. This is a great writing opportunity for your child. Do not fill out your child's Valentines for him/her. Have your child bring his/her finished Valentines to school by Friday, February 12th. Remember, Parent Group is providing ALL of the food and drinks. The party begins around 2:15.
It will be Qq week this coming week. The poem will be Valentines and Ellie will be our leader. T
he students will have Qq homework on Monday and the Ss page in their ABC books on Wednesday. I am very sorry about the Kk homework confusion last Monday. Instead of sending the homework page home, the substitute did it as a class activity. Like I tell the students, substitutes do things differently than I do and that's OK.
Monday is the day that I find out if I get a pie in my face this coming week. YIKES! Every student that brings in a dollar as a donation to Children's Hospital on Monday will get a heart with their name on it. These hearts will be put on our door. If $20 is raised, I get a pie in my face later in the week. If by some chance $40 is raised, I get two! I'm counting on the fact I only have 19 students. We will see!
Every student was able to go to the Bookmobile last Thursday! Thank you so much for taking an interest in your child being able to self select his/her own books for their enjoyment.
Roosevelt will be hosting an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m to discuss the new Jr. High/High School that the district is hoping to build. This is a great opportunity to get your questions answered and to get first hand information on what the district has planned.
It's that time of year where I begin to really get on the students about their writing. At this point they know about capitalization, punctuation, and spaces. The majority of them also know the sound to every letter of the alphabet. By the end of kindergarten, every student will need to be able to write a 3 sentence paragraph about a single topic. We practice this everyday. Keep this in mind as you write with your child at home. It would be so helpful if 2 to 3 times a week, you would give your child a topic and have him/her write three to four sentences about it. For example, tell them to write about tigers. Their work should read something like this: Tigers are black and white. Tigers are big cats. Some live at the zoo. Of course, your child's spelling should all be phonetic. Tigers may look like, tigrs. You will be amazed at what your child can write!
Lastly, conference letters went home on Friday. Please return that to me as soon as you can even if you do not want or need a conference.
Have a great week!
