LANGUAGE ARTS and PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Welcome to school year 2010-2011! This year, I have two language arts classes and three of physical science. I will try to separate the two classes on this page, but to start off, since my class rules and procedures are so similar, I will focus on those together.
Rules are simple: Be on time, be prepared, follow class procedures, treat everyone with respect and follow rules and/or directions the first time they are given.
Procedures: Read the board on the door as you enter the room so you know what to do for the beginning of class.
Put all other materials on the back shelf; keep only those things needed for this class.
You may keep your notebook in the room on the assigned shelves; get it at the beginning of class.
Walk at all times in the room--safety is key.
I assign little to no homework; almost all work is done in the classroom so I can monitor the work as it is being done and give feedback as needed. I do not grade most classwork; students are given a chance to correct mistakes since I view classwork as practice. I do collect the work, and then choose one to use as the classwork grade: that one should be 100% since they get to correct them all!!
I weight my grades each grading period as follows:
Classwork and participation: 10%
Tests/quizzes: 25%
Common Assessments: 65% (These are the big unit tests, about one per grading period.)
I will keep you posted on here as to when the final tests and common assessments will be. Students are always welcome to take home their notebooks and/or the textbooks at any time.
Feel free to contact me through my email (you can access that on the portal page) or through the school: 330 798 1003. It will go to my voicemail, but I will get back to you when I can.
See the files below for additional information and each class's supply list. If you have trouble getting these materials, the students can purchase some from me. I do have a few notebooks left from previous years that I will also make available to the students.
I am looking forward to a great year and thank you in advance for your help in making it a successful one for us all!
