February Wow, I really got behind! Common assessments for Forces and Motion went quite well! We finished up the unit with a project: teams made 'Balloon Vehicles' that they could then enter in races. I had planned to attach the pictures below, but I need to resize the images and have not found the time to do so. I do have the pictures printed out and posted in the hall by my room. If you are in the building, feel free to check them out. I do have photos posted below of the students designing and creating 'roller coasters' to help them undertand the concept of kinetic and potential energy. We are currently in the middle of the Energy and Waves unit. After learning about energy in general, we started studying each type of energy individually, The first focus was on thermal energy and the theory of kinetic molecular energy. The test covering this energy source is Monday, February 1st. I have attached the power points for this heat topic on the links below. After that, we will work with chemical energy by studying the difference between chemical and physical changes, and also address nuclear energy. Waves will be covered at the end of February. This will include both sound and electromagnetic waves. We will compare and contrast both types of waves. The common ssessment on energy will thus be at the end of the month. I will give a more specific date as the time gets closer. There are many activities planned for February, so I am not going to choose a date yet since we could get behind. A note: I have the students use 'white boards' in class frequently so I can check on their progress quickly and without having to waste paper; however, this means they need white board markers. Several of the students do not have them; they just use paper, instead, but I know many of them would like to use the boards, so it would be great if they could have markers of their own. I do have them available for sale (50 cents, my cost) if you do not want the bother of purchasing them yourself. Thanks for your help.
