Just imagine. This "Camp House" was still standing in June of 2005 when we went to New Orleans for vacation!
7TH & 8TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
Mrs. Callaway
(Team-teaching with Mrs. Wander)
WELCOME STUDENTS AND FAMILY! Please feel free to check this frequently for current units, progress, and activities in class. Also included are upcoming events pertaining to Language Arts.
ACCOMPLISHEMENTS:
Students just finished the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Research Paper, Poster, & Speech! They worked harder than I have ever seen them work this year! I was so proud of the effort and passion they put into this difficult project! We discovered that we have some talented writers, speakers, and artists in this group! Great job!
CURRENTLY:
We have just entered the Poetry unit! The initial response was varied! However, now the students have embraced at least some part of poetry.
We are creating poetry books that must include certain types of poems both found and written on their own. We have been studying poetry terms and identifying them in several different poems. The students have done an excellent job during Open Mic- sharing numerous poems out loud AND in front of the class! Very impressive!
The poetry books are due: Friday, February 27. On that Friday, we will be holding a "Poetry Cafe" to celebrate our experience with poetry! Here, we will take turns reading poetry from the students' poetry books, experience the atmosphere of the Beatniks, and of course eat good food! I am so excited about this, as the students seem to be as well!
We are now in 2009… unbelievable! Therefore, we are really stepping our expectations up a notch! Family, please encourage your child to strive for their BEST in these areas:
1. ATTENDANCE- come everyday to participate and complete in class assignments!
2. QUALITY OF WORK – turn in neat, revised, and PROUD work!
3. EFFORT- give your BEST effort in completing tasks assigned and asking for help when needed!
4. BEHAVIOR- treat class time as your learning time; NOT your social hour!
• Students WILL find success IF priority is set to meeting the criteria in these areas.
UPCOMING EVENTS/UNITS:
* The Iditarod Unit: students will track a musher and create a persuasive flyer.
* OAT Boot Camp: students will practice heavily on the many necessary skills, which are critical for passing the OAT & preparing for high school!
* Novel: students will read the novel, Tears of a Tiger by Sharon M. Draper. A packet of vocabulary, comprehension questions, and projects will assist them throughout the unit.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
*Please DO NOT hesitate to call me with any concerns, ideas, or questions. (Ext. 5350)
We have many important goals to accomplish this year! We will continue to work diligently to
tackle the survival skills of Language Arts! We will become better spellers, writers, readers, speakers,
and listeners. Good luck!
CLASSROOM RULES:
1. Be Respectful
2. Be Responsible
3. Take Risks in Learning!
* Consequences, for breaking the above rules, are always consistent and fair (A list was sent home).
