Thank you for visiting room 6's class page. We are working as hard as ever. Here is what is going on in our room:
Reading: In our guided reading groups the students are working on identifying story elements such as the characters, setting, and problem. They are also working on basic comprehension skills and remembering what they read. Ask your child questions when they are done reading a book at home to help boost their comprehension.
Centers: The students are working on their literacy skills with centers that have a Turkey or Thanksgiving theme. The boys and girls are working on words with silent e on the end, making new words by changing only the first sound of the word, writing imaginary turkey stories, and adding s and es to the ends of words to make plurals.
Math: The students are focusing on tens and ones using base ten blocks, counting money, telling time, and filling in frames and arrows problems. The students have learned how to play a new game as well. It's called Spinning for Money. The students loved it so ask your child to describe it to you.
Social Studies: We are learning about Native Americans and groups. The second grade focuses on the Eastern Woodland Indians and the Plains Indians.

Character Word of the Month: Appreciation
Please help your child practice this character trait at home. Thank you
Please remember that your child has homework each night Monday through Thursday each week. Homework is front and back. Both sides must be completed and brought back to school each morning. Homework helps reinforce skills being taught at school and it teaches the children responsibility.
