"EACH OF US IS DIFFERENT..."
Each of us is different, From our head down to our toes.
We have a different face, Different ears, different nose.
We like different things, Different colors, different games.
We're all different sizes, And we have different names.
But those differences make us special, And make us who we are.
So that each and every one of us, Knows that we're a STAR!
The focus of the Physical Education program is to assist students in developing sports-based and other movement skills in an inclusive and noncompetitive setting. Activities are adapted to be age and developmentally appropriate. Units of focus include, but are not limited to, various ball skills, balancing, strategic development, fitness and nutrition education, and participation in the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge for grades 2 through 6. Lessons typically include an introductory activity, physical fitness, lesson focus, and an ending game or cool-down period. Students are encouraged to positively demonstrate the six Points of Pride at all times.
The GOALS of the Physical Education program are:
- to assist students in developing a wide range of motor skills including, but not limited to: gross motor, fine motor, hand/eye and hand/foot coordination, and balance skills.
- to cultivate the skills needed to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- to promote positive social interaction through participation in cooperative games and other group activities.
- to cultivate a greater sense of self-esteem and self-confidence through physical activity and movement.
We recognize and value that each child is unique. It is our goal to provide a program that will assist each student in developing at his/her own pace and to provide an opportunity for all students to feel successful. We believe it is important for physical education to be a positive and exciting learning experience. With this in mind, it is our intention to provide enthusiastic, energetic, and motivating leadership. It is our hope that students will be encouraged and motivated to enjoy being physically active and be able to stay fit for a lifetime.
In an effort to encourage more physical activity, we are also going to implement a fun and exciting Intramural Program into our school day! Intramurals will be focused around the development of self-esteem, teamwork, and social skills, allowing interaction among different grade levels. Our program will provide a wide range of athletic and recreational activities that promote fun, fitness, and cooperative participation in both a non-competitive or friendly competitive atmosphere.
PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TESTING Each student will soon be participating in an upcoming baseline fitness testing for the 2009-2010 school year! Grades 1-6 will participate in challenges to test their abdominal and upper body strength, flexibility, agility, and cardiovascular endurance. We will be helping the students set goals, based on their initial scores, to achieve before the final testing in the Spring. The students will be challenged throughout the year and we encourage all participants to practice outside of school to achieve their maximum potential!!!
