Welcome!
I am so excited to be teaching your child this year.
I want to share a few items that will make school easier for us all.
I look forward to a successful year.

School Hours: We begin promptly at 7:35 AM each day with Language and Math activities.
Please have your child here on time.
Dismissal is at 3:05 PM Monday – Thursday and 12:50 on Fridays. It is important that we know how your child is to go home. If there is a change in this at any time please notify us in writing so there is no confusion.
All classes will be escorted to Building 1 and dismissed from there.
Please be prompt, as the children become worried when they are not picked up on time.

Lunch Money: School lunch may be purchased for $1.60 (reduced 40 cents).
Money will be collected in the morning, sent to the cafeteria and deposited in your child’s account.
It remains there until used.
You may prepay for lunch on a weekly or monthly basis online or in person.
You are welcome to eat lunch with your child; however, we ask that you wait until September 8th before visiting.
This will give the children an opportunity to become comfortable with cafeteria procedures.

Supplies: Thank you for sending in your child’s supplies.
You will be notified if any need to be purchased.

Homework: Homework in the first grade consists of two things that will remain the same all year; read 20 minutes daily and practice math facts 10 minutes daily.
Math facts can be practiced with flash cards or worksheets that will be sent home and/or on the school web class pages.
Additional homework assignments or projects may be assigned.
Check the Agenda.
Blue Folders/Agendas: These go home each afternoon and are to be returned the next morning.
Homework will be in the blue folder.
Please help your child by checking this each day.
Homework comes back in the blue folder the next morning.
The agenda/blue folder is the place to check for daily assignments, daily conduct and other information.
Use the blue folder or the pocket in the front of the agenda for Parent/Teacher Communication.
Wednesday Envelopes: Included in this envelope are important notices from Ashford Primary, HISD, and all graded papers.
Please sign the outside of the envelope and return the envelope along with any signed forms as requested…the next day.
Absences: If your child should be absent, please make sure you send a written excuse the day they return to school.
Uniforms: Students are to be in uniform every day.
Jeans and spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays.

Parent Volunteers: We always welcome your participation.

Please call or email me if you have any questions at 281-368-2120 or mguidry1@houstonisd.org.
Sincerely,
Mellissa Guidry
