WELCOME TO THE ART STUDIO
I am excited about the new year and cannot wait to meet all the children! The art room always starts out clean and neat which is quite different from how it looks after working in it all year. One of my favorite moments is hearing all the expressions about how "different " the art room looks, because what they remember was usually a "lived in" mess!
This year I will be adding pictures of our art work to this page with my new camera so please check back often.
We begin the year reviewing some of the basic elements of art; lines, color, value, texture, shape, form, and space. I have many new ideas for them to learn about these elements.
In Pre-K and Special Ed we will begin with exploring the use of crayon, marker, colored pencils, and doing a lot of painting.
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade will make their very own sketchbook to use each time they come to art. We will be studying different artists as we explore the elements of art.
2nd Graders will participate in Pinwheels for Peace which is an event that is held worldwide and is held on September 21st.
The entire school will be participating in the Original Art fundraiser in which the children produce beautiful pieces of art that parents can convert to mugs or mousepads or many other things. Perfect for holiday gifts and keepsakes.
We will also participate in the Rodeo Art Contest in the fall.
As usual, you are always welcome in the studio and I can always use an extra set of hands. Please contact me by email or phone if you are interested in helping out in art on a particular day.
Each year I collect "junk" for various projects, to start the year off, I am looking for the following items:
>large brown grocery bags
>large round cardboard ice cream containers
>cardboard egg cartons
>buttons
>fabric scaps
>foil
>keys or key rings
>corragated cardboard
>nuts & bolts
>sponges
>bubble wrap
In our class we will explore both "art" and "crafts".
While working in the "art" mode, we are focusing on the process rather than the product, we are engaging feelings and creativity, and are encouraging the children to try new things and trust their own self-expression.
While working in the "craft" mode, we are engaging cognitive skills and problem solving, creating a product, and learning to follow directions.
My Promise to your children:
- I promise to support their creativity
- I promise to respect them
- I promise to keep them safe
- I promise that they will have fun most days
- I promise that they will learn something new
- I promise to be fair
