Reading
Story of the week- Sharks- A Time for Kids article
Comprehension strategies focused on during the second unit- Problems and Solutions and Making Inferences
Phonics skills- A review of all the phonics patterns studied in Unit 2 in preparation for the next reading test.
Study skills- Using a Bar Graph
Spelling 
Spelling words for this week are words from science. The children will take the pretest on Monday- November 16 and take the final test on Thursday November 18. There will not be any new words for the week of November 23. The children will be expected to alphabetize the the spelling words(those that demonstrate the spelling pattern-the first 10) and use the challenge words in sentences(the last 5 words) This homework will be due on Wednesday this year.

Math
Children will complete chapter 6 this week and will be tested on Wednesday of this week. They will then begin Unit 3 which includes geometry concepts and fractions. Chapter 7 is all about plane shapes(squares,circles,rectangles, triangles,pentagons,hexagons, octogans.)

Religion
This week students will return to their religion books for two chapters, one the Ten Commandments(we're making the tablets ) and one on the "Great Commandment".
It is not too early to begin practicing the Act of Contrition. We will begin reciting it each day before lunch. Saying it before bed is a good practice.
Science
Mrs. Kraus will teach Social Studies to all second graders in the fall. Please check her class page for information about Social Studies. Parents should check assignment notebooks each night for any Social Studies homework and the date that assignment is due.
We will begin Chapter 3 which deals with Land Habitats. We will learn about the forest, rain forest desert and Arctic habitats. The children will be tested on Thursday - November 18 on chapter 3.
