August 30 – September 3
Welcome to Room 5-25!
It is supposed to be quite warm, so remember to bring water bottles.
Monday is an 11:00 dismissal.
Tuesday is a full day, but there is no hot lunch.
Remember to bring a lunch and a drink.
P.E. starts on Tuesday – remember your gym clothes.
Be sure to follow the directions on the SmartBoard or board each morning.
A tentative schedule is attached below if you wish to print it. Parents, remember to click the Be Notified button above so that you will be notified when I have updated this classpage.
Religion:
There is no Mass until Sept. 10.
We are going to start our study this year with the Fruits of the Spirit”, and you will get your first assignment Monday.
Did you remember to look over the posters?
Our new textbook is called Blest Are We.
At the beginning of each chapter are “Take Home” pages, so watch for the first of these in the Friday Folder this week. We will cover a short section on how the Bible came to be this week and continue the chapter next week.
Reading: Students will be able to choose a story to read from Unit I this week.
Since they will be asked to write many summaries this year (including one on the story they choose) I will take them through “A Five Finger Guide to Writing a Summary” on the SmartBoard.
Language Arts:
Spelling is part of my Language Arts rather than a homeroom subject.
My usual pattern is to give a spelling pretest on Monday, a spelling worksheet due on Wednesday, and a final spelling test on Friday.
This has to be adjusted on short weeks.
They do not have a spelling book, so the sheet is the only assignment.
This week we will do a writing activity and the spelling.
Next week we start with the text.
Social Studies:
We’ll see Jesus’ name written in many languages, and then attempt to locate the countries in which the language is spoken.
There are several skills I want to be sure the students know, so we will use the handbook and introduction at the front of the book and practice with map scale, directions, and latitude and longitude.
By the end of the week students should be successful playing a latitude/longitude game on the computer.
Art:
Did you know your name could become a work of art?
We’ll show you how.

Spotlight on Technology:
Reading: How to write a summary using the SmartBoard
Social Studies: Interactive game using Latitude and Longitude
Here is our “Specials” schedule:

Library: Thursday
Music: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Computers: Monday
