SECOND GRADE NEWS
Working Together For Success

RELIGION
This week we continued our chapter about prayer. We talked about the Prayer of the Faithful and how we take that time at Mass to pray for others. In our Communion books we are learning how the Eucharist is about giving thanks for new life. We read the story of Jesus’ resurrection and how his disciples reacted when they heard the good news. We also talked about how they were no longer afraid and went out to share the Good News with others. We read the story about St. Patrick and how he used the shamrock to teach about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
LANGUAGE ARTS
This week we read the stories Yawning Dawn and Missing: One Stuffed Rabbit.
We talked about the characters in the story and used the clues in the story to better understand their actions. We also pretended to be part of the class in the story and wrote a letter to our missing stuffed rabbit.
We are also working on a group story trying to use this week’s vocabulary words.
This week we started learning about adverbs, what they are and identifying them in sentences. In the next few weeks we will put more adverbs into our writing as well.
MATH
This week we continued working with 2-digit subtraction with regrouping. We can definitely see that we need to continue working on our subtraction facts! We also started working with the beginning steps of multiplication. We're learning to look at groups of objects and put the information together in a multiplication number model! Practice your subtraction facts!
SCIENCE
This week we started a new chapter. In Chapter 1 we will be learning about plants.
We will also learn about the types of plants that grow in different environments and how they adapt to live.

SOCIAL STUDIES
This week we finished our last chapter in Unit Three. We will end the week by completing the unit review. We will have our Unit Test on Friday the 26th. A study guide will go home along with their book and packet pages. Please be sure to visit Mrs. Kutsch's webpage for vocabulary flash cards.
TECHNOLOGY
This week we worked on our Sports Articles! We are looking forward to reporting them to the class!
