Library News

St. Mary's Middle School students have been busy reading books for the annual Battle of the Books. The classes have divided into groups of four or five students and read a list of 20 books.  Each group then submitted questions for each book they read. Our "battle" was held April 29, using many of the questions written by the students.  These are our classroom winners:

**Grade 6 Winners:

                    Robbie Elsbury

                    Austin Madsen

                    Kathleen Straube

                    Emily Stanich

                    Cassie Reesman

Grade 7 Winners:

                    Kit Kocha

                    Jacob DeRosier

                    Marah Zinnen

                    Bianca Clayton

                    Bailey Wright

**Grade 8 Winners:

                    Nic Callahan

                    Ali Wiemer

                    Alex Kurpiel

                    Tess Lavieri

**The SMS 2009 DISTRICT  TEAMS    then competed in a District Battle of the Books.  This year's competition was held in Heim Hall on May 13.  Students from St. Patrick's, St Francis, St. Thomas and First Lutheran also participated.

St. Mary’s Grade School Library is now closed for our annual inventory.   All books and materials must be returned. There will be a sale of used books from our library during lunchtime beginning Monday, June 1. These are books that have been withdrawn from our collection because they are too worn for continued circulation.   Although no longer suitable for multiple checkouts, they are still usable and would provide good reading for your children.

Other books to be sold are books that are damaged, but might be useful for their beautiful illustrations which could be cut out and used for reports, room decorations, or creative-writing activities.

Books are all selling for twenty-five cents , which will make it possible for most students to purchase a book. Funds from this book sale will be used to purchase new books for the library.

Be sure to visit the public library often during the summer months.    Keep reading!
