Reading/Language

This week we will be reading a story about a boy named Wallace who has a fantastic imagination. We are going to read about his wild and crazy summer vacation. Be sure to ask your child about Wallace's vacation. We will also be reviewing types of sentences and vowel sounds.
This year students will need to read for 15 minutes each night. In addition, they will need to journal about what they read several times each week. Journals and reading logs for the month of September are due on Thursday, September 30th. The theme for this month is fairy tales, folk tales, and talltales. Children should try to read books of this type. For more information on the monthly reading assignment, see the packet that came home or the link below.
Math

We will be doing some review for the first part of the year: how to use the number grid to find differences, number grid puzzels, frames and arrows, time, money, and using charts. Home links will be coming home most nights. These need to be completed and returned the next day. I have sent home an older edition of our student reference book. This can stay at home so your child can use it as a reference.
Religion

We will be learning about how we are Christians who are called to spread the Good News.
Please note that we have an all school mass on Tuesday, September 6. Our usual mass day is Friday. All school masses are usually on Tuesday. Please make sure your child does not wear shorts on mass days. Thank you.
As part of serving our community, we will be going to Mount Carmel nursing home several times this year. We will do activities with the residence there. A note was sent home on Thursday with further information. You can also see the link below for more information.
Social Studies/Science

In Social Studies we will start off the year by learning about different types of communities. We will learn abou t what makes each community special.
