Math -
On Mondays we will take a Math Fact Test. The tests are timed for three minutes. Students achieving a 90% or higher for three tests will move on to higher multiplication facts or division. I have links below to several fun Math sites that you can use to practice multiplication facts. We have started Unit 6. We will practice solving multiplication and division number stories, rotations and angles, and coordinate grids.
Religion- Our Religion studies will be focused on the Beatitudes. Jesus gave us the Beatitudes as guidelines for achieving true happiness. The word beatitude means "blessed," "happy," or "joyous." The students will be memorizing the Beatitudes and writing a short story based on one of them.
Grammar -
We will begin to explore verbs. Verbs show action or links the subject to another word in the sentence. During Writer's Workshop the students are learning about the 6+1 Trait of "Sentence Fluency." We have learned that sentences should flow and be of different lengths.
Spelling - Fourth graders do not have the traditional Spelling book. Each Monday they take a pre-test on selected spelling words. Then they make a list of any words they spelled incorrectly. They must choose additional "Challenge Words" in order to have a total of 20 spelling words. The "Challenge Words" are at a higher level (usually 5th or 6th grade). Students have a list of spelling assignments for the week. The assignments are due on Friday. Students give each other their post-test every Friday.
Book Reports - Students will be reading either a science fiction or realistic fiction book. Then students will imagine that they work for a travel agency and they will design a travel brochure to advertise the setting of the book. The brochure should include a description of the setting, attractions that may be found in the place, and what type of entertainment is nearby. If the book has more than one setting, choose the most unusual and interesting one. Happy Reading!
Social Studies -
Our Wisconsin history studies will take us to the time period of 1870-1920. We will learn about mass production, the Progressive reform, and World War I.
Textbooks On-Line - Our Science and Social Studies textbooks are online. This is very helpful if a child forgets to bring home his/her book and to help study for a test. Our classroom, A1, will be using the Social Studies textbook during the second semester. Follow these directions to access the on-line textbook.

Our Vocabulary series also has an on-line site. It has interactive student activities such as Hidden Word, Matching, Hangman, Crossword Puzzles, Word Search, Word Scramble and Concentration. The activities are designed to provide students with engaging and challenging reinforcement of the instruction provided in the Student Texts. These activities are great as review before a Quiz.

We are in the orange level.
P.A.T.H. - Our school's theme this year is P.A.T.H. It stands for Positive Attitudes Touch Hearts. We are encouraging students to have a positive attitude every day. Ask your child how his/her positive attitude has touched a heart today.
