Religion

In Unit 3, children will learn that the Bible teaches about God's creation and God's love for us. They will read stories to help them understand the importance of love and prayer. Chpater 9 will focus on the Bible where we learn about God's love for all of creation. The focus of Chapter 10 is the Liturgy of the Word, where we learn how to follow Jesus. In Chapter 11 we will learn how We are to show our love for God by serving others. Chapter 12 will conclude the unit and deal with how the Church invites us to pray for the needs of all people.

Math

Chapter Six will explore several different ways to organize story problems. We will learn about quantity and difference, parts and total, and start-change-end organizers. All of these will help us determine the best way to problem solve our story problems. We will also review partial-sum algorithms, ballpark estimate and data tables.

Reading/Language Arts

This week we are reading stories that have are mysteries. In Four Clues for Chee, Chee was given four clues by his grandfather to guess his gift. After reading that story the students wrote clues for each other about a gift they received for Christmas. This was really fun! We also read a Cam Jansen story. This mystery taught the importance of paying attention to all details in a story.

Science

This week we have been working on illustrating our vocabulary words to learn them better. We have been talking about the Water Cycle as we learn more about evaportation and condensation. Next week we will do an experiment that helps us see the water cycle in action!

Social Studies

In social studies we have started the unit titled Places Near and Far. In this unit we will explore our place on earth, continent, country, state, community and address. We will also focus on landforms climate, and natural resources and how these effect the way we live. Our unit will conclude with project in which the students will be given an opportunity to create a 3-demensional map encompassing all the landforms that we have discussed.
