ࡱ> PRO I%bjbj 4JI$tlll$ FlllllHHHl.HlHH+(Z0, T + +TllHlllllHlllllll lllllllll : September 2009 Dear Families, Can you believe that a new school year has begun? I look forward to all the new exciting things this school year will bring. I plan to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all my students, so they feel free to become all they can be. The goal for our classroom is to come together as a community and feel comfortable working together. I feel that communication and team work between parents and teachers is important in providing the best for your child. I will do my best to keep you informed and involved in your child's classroom life. To start, I have attached important information that will help keep you informed through the year. If you need to contact me, the best time is before and after school by telephone. I can also be contacted by email. Last but not least, I thank you in advance for your cooperation and support. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child's learning experiences! Sincerely, Classroom Rules: 1. Respect yourself and others. 2. Raise your hand. 3. Listen carefully when someone is talking. 4. Keep all hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 5. Use inside voices. 6. Walk quietly in the hall. 7. Have fun! Behavior Modification Plan: *Students will have the opportunity to earn GOTCHA rewards each day for making great choices in their actions. *A student will receive a yellow warning card on his/her desk when he/she is having a difficult time following the rules. This card may be taken away if the behavior improves. However, if the inappropriate behavior continues, an orange card will be given. At this time the student will need to write a short note about the choice he/she has made. If a student receives 2 orange cards within a day, those tags will change to a red card. Two red cards within a week will result in a Violation. *At the end of each day students who have not received a yellow, orange, or red card will earn a sticker on their Sticker Chart. For the start of the year children who have earned 3 stickers at the end of the week will earn a Friday Surprise! There will also be a variety of additional individual and classroom rewards for a job well done. Sticker Chart: Will be located in your child's home folder. Please keep this there to keep you informed on how your child's day was. **If a student receives 3 Violations within a quarter, he/she will need to serve a Detention. **Rebates- -5 days without a Violation will enable the student to get the last Violation taken away. Absents/Tardies: If you know ahead of time that your child will be tardy or absent, please call the school office. If you would like work sent home, please let us know in the morning. Specialist: This may help in deciding appropriate clothing for the day. During sandal season, please make sure that you child has a pair of socks to put on with his/her gym shoes. For those who may not have sent a pair, stay at school gym shoes are required. Monday--Computers, Art Tuesday--Spanish, Music, Library Wednesday--Gym, Music Thursday--Mass, Gym Friday--Computers Science/Religion: Our class will be switching for Science and Religion on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Mrs. Butler will be teaching Religion and I will teach Science. Home Folders: Your child has chosen a folder that has been designated his/her home folder. This folder will go back and forth from home and school each day. This folder will contain homework, letters, graded work, and more. Please empty the folder each night and send any homework or notes back to school in this folder. This routine will enable us to communicate efficiently about your child's progress in school. Thursday Folders: A red folder will be sent home every Thursday with important information from the office. Also, in this folder will be a correspondence sheet that will note any complements or concerns regarding your child's work/behavior for the week. Please sign the correspondence sheet each week and return Friday. Assignment Notebooks: Please take the time to look at your child's assignment notebook each night. When homework is completed please sign at the bottom and return with your child each day. I will also use the assignment notebook for a way to communication with home. Please feel free to leave me a note in the assignment notebook! Homework: Reading: Your child will soon bring home a Reading Folder. More information to come! Math: A Homelinks sheet will be sent home daily (excluding most Fridays) and is always due the next school day. This should take only 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Please let me know if your child struggles with the math homework. Spelling: Mondays we will type up our spelling list, which the students then will bring home to practice. Formal spelling tests will be given at the end of the week (usually on Fridays). Homework in Social Studies, Religion, and Science may occur a few times through the year. Birthdays: Birthdays are a special time for recognition. If you choose to celebrate your child's birthday with a treat, you may want to consider the more nutritional type. If your child has a summer birthday we may celebrate it on the half birthday or the day of your choosing. Please let me know what you decide. We have 22 students in our class and you may want to keep this in mind as well. Also, if you are sending any kind of party invitations to school for students, please sent them only if all the boys are invited, all the girls are invited, or all the students are invited. If you are planning on inviting only a few, (which is understandable) please send them by mail. Home Transportation: If your child will be going home in a different way than normal, you must send a note specifying the change of plans (especially, with Daisies or Boy Scouts). Also, if you will be picking up your child early and know about it in advance, please write me a note as well so I can help to prepare your child for an early departure. Notes/Lunch Money: When sending money to school for the lunches, book orders, field trips, etc. please put it in an envelope labeled with your child's name and room number and what it is for. Please do not just sent money or a check by itself. Water Bottles: Students are allowed to have water bottles at their desks. I also encourage the students to take them home regularly to limit germs. "Star of the Week": Throughout the year students will have the chance to be our class "Star" for the week. This is an opportunity for each of my students to have a week of special recognition and for the class to get to know him/her better. A week before, a bag will come home with your child. This bag will contain a letter with more details! See the list below for your child's week.
