History- Remember to keep your study questions in the correct format, answer completely and make the effort. I will be checking and if they aren't in the correct format and there doesn't seem to some effort on you part to restate the question, use your own words (summarize) and try to answer the question I will have to take points off your grade. This is a little different than the completion grade so make sure you have them!!!!!
We will start most mornings with Daily Language lessons on the Smart Board which will involve revising paragraphs grammatically. This will only take a few minutes, but will be our warm up first thing. You will start when you arrive in the room and we will only spend 10 or 15 minutes on it. This means you need to be here on time.
Week of April 27th
English-We will continue English Workshop. This week we will try to cover pp. 257-268. Abbreviations, end marks, and rules for commas will be the focus.
5 Paragraph Essay-This week we will look at fact/opinion, persuasive paragraphs, cause and effect, keeping tothe topic and drawing conclusions. We will begin our five paragraph essay on "Why We Shouldn't Smoke" next week. We will do some research, then begin with the introduction. Each step will take a little time because I will be editing each paragraph one on one with you. (minutia)
Writing Magic- Ch. 23 and 24. We will read and discuss the chapters and write in journals.
History-We will continue with Industrial Revolution. We'll write and perform a short puppet skit on the three classes of people :rich, middle class and poor. We didn't get to the essay last week, but we will summarize one topic on the life and ideas of Robert Owens or Adam Smith. Also, summarize the meaning of socialism or how capitalism developed from mercantilism.
Door in the Wall-We will continue to read this novel. Most of your reading will have to be done outside of class.
This is a short week with Trade Fair. You may have more homework, but we have to cover some ground before school is out. Trade Fair is fun, but sometimes we have to take the bitter with the better.
