I just sent out a test message to see if the email address I have for you is a working one.  Please
address if you have one, as sometimes I need to talk to you first before I talk to your parents.

Who will be the next Queen of Questions?  Will Elisabeth be overthrown?  Will Milla catch up?  Who will reign in 2009?

Looking for YOU, students who love math and like to work with younger students!  Elise Anderson started a club called Mathletes.  Last year was really busy with new organizations taking a lot of extra time,  that Mathletes never really got off the ground, but in honor of our 2008 graduate we are going to get it going this year.   Interested 7th and 8th graders need to contact me by email.

WOW!

On May 17, 13-year-old Danny Johnson sat down in front of an Xbox 360 at The Guitar Hero 24 Hour Marathon in Dallas and completely shredded “Through the Fire and Flames.” On expert.

For this feat of finger acrobatics, he earned a score of 890,971 points — and snagged the world record. If that weren’t impressive enough, dig this: Danny strummed his first virtual note just nine months ago.

If you’ve never seen someone play “Through the Fire and Flames” on the expert setting, you should. In fact, check out the video of Danny’s record-breaking quest, as taped by older brother Scotty (himself a “Guitar Hero” ace).  Even if you think video games are the root of all societal evil, you can’t help but be impressed.

Thinking of you Kevin:

Come out and support our SLES football team!  Anyone interested in starting a pep squad for football?  If we get a large enough group we can continue to cheer for basketball, soccer, track and field and volleyball.

Our Motto for 2008-2009
"WE WILL WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM." I'm not saying that  everybody has to be best of buds, but we will all learn to work and learn together as a team.  I love this picture so much that this will be AGAIN our class motto...KNOW IT LIVE IT!

PARENT SECTION

website that Oprah said all parents should be aware of:

Interesting quote..something to ponder:
"If you define
learning as acquiring any kind of knowledge, understanding, or skill,
then many young people engage in at least as much informal learning
as they do formal learning," says Dennie Palmer Wolf, a senior
scholar at the Annenberg Institute.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I say you can keep an old dog informed...this is not to scare you, but to keep you informed: see file called "dusting"

This is almost too hard to believe...

INTERESTING ARTICLE FOR PARENTS!

PATE (Parents Algebra Topic Evenings) Nights The image “http://www.milleret.fr/verrine_pate_marmite.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.   These nights are for parents whose students are enrolled in ALGEBRA I.  Watch for information on this webpage.  Times, dates and topics will be posted before the start of school.  This are optional.  Think of them as a "parent elective."

pre-PATE Nights (pre-algebra parent topic evenings)
This is designed for the parents whose students are taking the Pre-algebra course in 7th grade.  These evenings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30-7:30.

PARENTS...if you want a good indicator of what your child knows or maybe needs some extra work this summer on...go to these websites and have them take the TEKS Test for the state of Texas.  It comes with an answer key.  You may want to print it out and have them do several problems a night, rather than the whole test.  Incoming 7th graders should take the 6th grade test and incoming 8th graders should take the 7th grade test.  I believe the incoming 8th graders took this test, but never hurts to refresh your math skills.
