HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!!
It has been a pleasure teaching your children this year! After a school year of exploring masterpieces, learning about different artists, and using the elements of art and principles of design to create artwork, I am amazed at how much each of the students grew and improved his/her art skills. Kinder students were amazingly creative and smart. They enjoyed the process of creating art and exploring new techniques. During the last few weeks of school, we read silly versions of fairy tales and created characters and illustrations for them. The bulletin boards outside my room and Miss SariƱana's room are currently displaying some of the silly fairy tale characters we made, and many people have told me how much they have laughed looking at them. First grade has the sweetest and most polite children I have ever taught. They were very dedicated and persevering. We finished the year weaving a bookmark that turned out to be both challenging and fun. Students learned how to thread a needle, how to make simple knots, and how to make a simple stitch. Second graders were full of energy and enthusiasm. They embraced every project with a great attitude and learned that patience is a virtue needed in the Art room! They finished the year with a weaving project that introduced them to the beauty of fiber arts. We also made their state bird t-shirts by drawing and coloring the birds on sand paper and then transferring them to the t-shirt with an iron. I have posted some pictures of the artwork selected for the Share Artshow for you to enjoy. Have a fun and safe summer! Fondly, Lourdes Saks
