Many, Many thanks to our parent council for the love gifts during teacher appreciation week. We enjoyed all of the personal attention! Kindergarten moms, thank you for attending our Mother's Day luncheon. We had such a wonderful time visiting with all of you.
OurWeek at a Glance May 11- 15, 2009
Math Magic... Calendar Math will continue... Days of the week, months of the year, weather tallies, counting patterns, creating daily patterns with pattern cards, counting money, problem of the day, place value. Everyday Math Lessons will include addition/ subtraction through a function machine, telling and writing number stories. Introduction of the dollar bill; how to write the amount two ways, exchanging coins to make a dollar, ordering numbers, comparing numbers using the less than greater than sign.
Language Arts Our focus this week will be assessing phonograms, writing and spelling. Reading a rain forest favorite: "The Great Kapok Tree".
We will continue to identify narrative, informative and informative / narrative passages. Read in small groups and whole group to develop decoding skills, fluency and comprehension. Develop our listening, speaking and writing vocabulary! Read "The Lorax" and many more interesting literary pieces.
Science This week our focus is on Ecology! We will learn how to read and draw the symbols for reuse, recycle, and reduce. As well as completing some ecological investigations. We will create an " Energy Snake", discuss how the rain forests are needed to maintain ecological balance here on Earth. Take and test water samples, as well as answer the following question: How clean is our air?
Bring some information about ecology! This week we need a three liter bottle and we are collecting pantyhose, or tights for an "Energy Snake".
Dates to Remember May 8th: Field Day, so remember to wear your comfortable short and athletic shoes. May 12th: Spring concerts: PK3 - 2nd, Church at 9:30 3rd - 8th, Church at 11:00 May 22nd: Field Day for 3rd - 8th and early dismissal ... 1:00p.m. ( no after care available)
Getting little ones to bed early develops brain power! " Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man ( children, in this case ) healthy and wise"!
