WELCOME to Fifth Grade Mathematics and Science

Background: I was born and reared in San Antonio, Texas, and attended Alamo Heights for my primary and secondary education. Upon graduating from Alamo Heights High School, I enrolled at Trinity University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, 2006, and my Master of Arts in Teaching for Secondary Education, 2007. I was a Geometry and Algebra II teacher, as well as JV soccer coach, at Clark HS in the 2007-2008 school year. This is my second year of full time teaching and I am excited to be at St. Luke's and to be working with Mary Catherine Tablada.

Grading Policy: For each day an assignment is late, 10 points will be deducted from the final grade.  Students will not lose more than 50 points for late work.  On homework assignments, grades will be taken on completion or on completion and accuracy.  I will try to take a minimum of two grades for homework assignments each week depending on what we are learning.  Homework assignments will now be graded on a 50% completion, 50% accuracy.

Mathematics: Now that we have learned how to change improper fractions into mixed numbers, mixed numbers into improper fractions, finding common denominators, and adding and subtracting mixed numbers we will continue on this path.  We will talk about multiplying and dividing fractions (in a basic manner) and we will work with word problems involving mixed numbers (students will be creating their own).

Science: After Monday's frog dissection, we will focus on chemistry.  We will learn about the basic building blocks of matter, learn fun facts on some of the elements, and discuss different states that the elements possess.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  I will try to answer them as quickly as possible and to the best of my ability.
